Then the streetshooter has gotten lazy
. 50 years of rangefinders, and after a few years a swivel screen has become a necessity? It only takes a little practice to get the shot without looking - I do it with my SLR all the time.__________________

For close-ups and stuff, like scoundrel mentioned, then a swivel LCD wold be nice, but to each his own. |

Smited is where you click the Smite link on the left right under your name. It is for when you really don't agree with someones post. If you like the post, nice pic, good joke, whatever, you can Applaud them too.
The more I look at the G7, the more I think it is a complete piece of crap. The sensor may be great, but Canon, in somewhat typical Canon fashion IMO, has given the world a DOWN GRADE. They took the swivel lens. They took RAW (to save their DSLR sales). They took the ND filter. They changed the media type. They made the older models wide aperture a lot smaller. They added IS and made the lens longer. Looks more like an A-series upgrade than a G-series one. |

Interesting take. Perhaps with the drop in DSLR prices, the market can no longer support further development of the G6. For me, it would be a huge upgrade from an S500. Perhaps that's who they're after.

To all who have said "Ehhh, you're lazy. Just use the distance scale and focus. easy as 3.1415,yadda, yadda" Um, show me a distance scale and a focusing ring on this G7 and I'll use it. Every one of the mentions of streetshooting were followed by "my SLR and such", well no doubt you can do that with an SLR. I can do it on my FED-2 rangefinder quite easily too. But with a PNS, the controls don't lend themselves to that style as easily. It ain't laziness, it's the function of the tool.

Looks good from scratch, or from a really old G-series or other Canon models with less features. From a G6 stand point, I don't think any of them will upgrade. Well some will maybe, but Canon better hope for some people moving up from A's or S's.
If you look at the Canon A710 IS (I think it is), it is 7mp, lacks a hot-shoe, and the new Digic-III, and that is about it. It has a wider aperture, and the LCD flips and flops. Although, this image makes it look sweet... |
