Just wondering what ya think of it as I'm seriously thinking of getting one.
Also if I get a non DG version what will I lose?(Straight EX HSM APO) This will be used with a 10D and will be used 95% for Wildlife/Nature shots.. TIA __________________

GraphyFotoz,
I have a BIGMA, the DG version. The lens is quite heavy, but very usefull. However you'll have to learn shooting with this lens. |

Yeah I know it's gonna be heavy! : ![]() But.....a straight prime in 400-500mm is around a whooping full time 20in+ in length and probably close to as heavy. Doing nature shots like I do carrying a bazooka around doesn't appeal to me. There is the cost issue as well. |

I have only utilized a friends BIGMA on an XT body. It's an impressive package and suprisingly sharp throughout it's range.
You may want to also cross-shop the Tamron 200-500 for comparison. Both lenses are comparable in image quality, but the Tamron is a bit lighter, and some might think; more cheaply made due it's higher plastic content. The BIG Tammy does get good reviews though and it focuses rather quick. Regardless, the BIGMA serves many photographers quite well, and it's still a compelling value. |

I have owned the Bigma for about 3 months and am very happy with it. I use it on a 30D and mainly for kids sports. I couldn't justify a a 300 2.8 for the price. The only downside is smallish aperature. You will probably need a monopod as a minimum however I have shot a few handheld with good results. You will need good bracing technique to do this.
Have fun - it's a great lens. Dave |

I had a bigma for a couple of years. I found it to be soft on the long end. Also because of the small f 6.3 aperture the lens was slow to focus and would hunt allot with a busy background. They have a new version coming out with OS but they still haven't done anything with the aperture. The clincher was when the lens malfunctioned and Sigma took four months to fix it

I don't have the Bigma, I have the Sigma 150-500 mm with the OS. Does it have a cool name?
For the money, I'd say it can't be beat . ![]() |

That makes sense as it was a fairly big deal that it had the OS.
