I suspect it will put downward pressure on all the existing camera bodies on the used market.
I also believe it's a bad time to be buying EF-S lenses, since the 1.6x crop factor looks like its days are numbered. I never liked the EF-S lens idea anyway. It was too confusing and potentially threatening to the existing customers. |

All these preview samples start looking the same to me after awhile. Is it just my monitor, or do these 5D pictures appear a bit washed out? I see plenty of blown highlights in the sun.

The 5D's arrived at Norman Camera today, so I was able to have a brief hands-on with it this evening.
Nothing too comprehensive in a few minute trial, but a good "taste" of what it's like. Overall it's does feel noticeably larger than the 20D, but similar enough that you could easily go back and forth between the two without having to search for the controls. Essentially, if you're familiar with the 20D, you already know the 5D. The viefinder is roomy as others have noted, and refreshingly bright. I sampled the body with the 35 f/1.4and noted a quick AF lock in the dimly lit store. Maybe a bit of a "skewed" test as the 35 f/1.4 is quite bright to begin with. I'm not sure where the LCD brightness settings were set at, but the LCD appeared to be not so bright. :-\ I can see where this could be somewhat problematic in daylight. It's quite possible that the brightness setting could be boosted more than it was. I was quite pleased with the shutter sound. It does have a different pitch about it (lower than the 20D) and I'm not quite sure if it's truly quieter, but it sure sounds like it is. This is a real boon to wedding photographers etc. Well, that was about it! It appears to be a winner in my early estimate. The proof is in the samples and I unfortunately did not have the time to get any. > ![]() Ah... maybe later. Kevin __________________
