Many have made the move from a variety of cropped sensor cameras to full frame. Was it worth it? What was your experience? Would you do it again?
Thanks for your insights! __________________

I did that and i never look back, it is worthy, but i am sure many will say it will not make a big difference about the quality of work or your skill or talent, so it will be an issue of affording with budget more than improving your skill, so you have to decide whether you can afford it is the reason or you want to improve your skill is another reason.

I made the move from '1.6x (40D) and 1.3x (1D3)' to 'FF (5D2) and 1.3x (1D3)' ![]() FF is what I wanted 'from the start', but back then FF was not available in a body I could afford, and alas when 5D '1' emerged (first 'affordable' FF) my priorities were different (needed a more rugged and weathersealed body) so I went 1D3 first, and added a 5D2 later. The one and only reason for me to want FF is the shallower DoF and the 'gut feel' of my lenses was 'normal' again, the '24mm = 24mm on a FF' thinghy, - to me personal it was more the 'EF85F1.2L feels like the FD85mmF1.2L I had before again' thinghy - , I never ever really got used to cropped bodies, I guess ![]() The 'transition' went smooth, although I did have to re-adjust to the shallower DoF and the larger 'shake-factor' ![]() So to *me* the experience was more than worth it, and a necessity, as my 'main client' asked for more MP I would do it again in a heartbeat - if the money was there ![]() ...€0.02... Kindest regards! Max@Home |

I can really see myself making the migration to FF then MF. I keep wondering if I should shorten up the process by going to MF and skipping FF. I know this will certainly change my style of shooting as I have done a lot of hiking and packing lighter smaller cameras. I have a few friends that made the move and when I look at the quaility the achieve with MF I know it's where I'd love to be.
Any insights on this or what a entry level MF kit for landscape, travel and macro might look like? |

First reason was, as Max said, to make my lenses "normal" again. Second was what I heard and read about the I.Q. of the original 5D.
Downside, for me, was consumer glass seems a little more consumer - soft edges are a littel softer since you're no longer using only the middle of the lens. Would I do it again? Definitely. Even today I doubt any digital camera has as good "straight out of the camera" quality as the 5D. This has now become an issue... I want to upgrade to a 5DIII when they come out later this year - so I'm selling my 5DI. But I don't want to sell it... But as a hobyist I can't justify 3 bodies... |

Converted from 350D to 5D Mk. 1 when it first came out - never looked back and that was about 4-5 years ago. I can hardly wait until the 5D III comes out and then I will have 2 FF cameras for shooting - one I can keep a telephoto mounted on and the other for wide angle or macro work in the field. I like being able to put a 100mm lens on it and know that it is a true 100 mm lens - could never get used to the 1.6 C sensor thingy...but that is just me. IMHO, the IQ is great and the straight out of the camera quality continues to amaze me. I would never go back to anything less than FF. My 0.02¢ worth.
Cheers, WesternGuy |

I shoot with both a full frame and cropped frame camera and I enjoy both cameras. I don't put much stock into what focal length is "true" to 35mm format. I'm more interested in the final output, I guess. Each body has its own characteristics that I enjoy. I guess to answer your question, I wouldn't put the fact as to the sensor size at the top of my list of things that make the final decision...but that's just me. I take nothing away from full frame sensors, either. In a perfect world, I guess this wouldn't even be an issue, would it?
