Your favorite walkabout lens?

canon 28-70mm f2.8 usm. use with d30 and 300d. i take a lot of indoor shots (church) with no flash hand held, it does the job, next is my macro 65mm 1-5x ,100mm usm, 180mm.

Most of the time its a 24-70 f/2.8 but recently I've been using the 70-200 f/2.8 more too. The first one is a lot less weight.

Canon EF 70-200 F2.8L IS is my favorite.

I love the fast 70-200 2.8 also. But for a walk around the 70-200 f4 works better because of the weight. For a walk around I don't realy find myself needing faster than f4 most of the time. But that's just me. Guess it maters where your walking to.

that's interesting--you are the first user/owner of a 1Ds/1Ds MkII that I found confessing to use one of the above mentioned lenses on FF-digital bodies.
What are your overall quality impressions? Do you use them wide open? If so, what about corner sharpness?

for me, 24-70 f2.8 and 70-200 f4

500 f4 and usually with a 1.4X attached.

Before I got this lens, it was the 400 f5.6.

I do use my 17-40 when I am in landscape mode,* but the long lens is usually on the camera.

The 500 is one of my favorite all-time lenses I've ever shot with.
