Is anyone actually interested in a camera with more megapixels than the 16 that the 1DS Mark II sports? I mean, really, what are you going to do with all that resolving power? I've heard from more than one photographer that the current 1DS Mark II already outresolves many lenses in the Canon lineup. Are people forgetting this, or is it not really true?

I think the desire for something like 24 megapixels is part of the desire to compete with Medium Format Digital with something lighter, more portable, and more versatile.* The need for stitching in giant landscapes will be reduced.

I got the 1Ds2 and cannot see me upgrading for years to come yet.
If it out resolves some lens I would say its debatable :-\ |

9th July on the German official canon site http://canon-bda.e-hippocampus.de/ you could type in 1d and clic the durchstarten buttom. After that you could read that there was EOS-1Ds Mark II N Manualkit. If that was a mistake or what I do not know. Today that 1DsMarkIIn do not exist anymore on the site.

I wouldn't say no to more resolution, but I don't want to sacrifice the excellent dynamic range or ISO (better ISO50 would be nice). I've also read some rumors about a new pro body to be announced in August..
Who knows, we'll wait and see.. ![]() |

After a while, satisfaction with existing bodies obviates the need to upgrade when more pixels show up on a camera's sensor. Personally, I would not upgrade my 1D Mark II unless another camera with at least 24MP was put on the market.

I have the 1Dsmk2 as well. Love it. Cant really see why canon, in their infinite wisdom, would release a larger MP camera than the 1dsmk2 when nikon is not even treading in the full frame arena or anything close to this sensor size. My bet is that canon will wait and hone what it has in development. I tend to agree that they might come out with some hybrid of the 1dsmk2 and a 1dmk2(n). No real reason to make a serious jump above the 1dsmk2 currently.

I'm interested, if the price is reasonable of course.
And what's resolving power people are talking about. I'm no techie by any means but there are digital backs (don't know what that means either) that have something like 36 MP. Are they complaining about their lenses? I could be totally off here though. |

I would also like to see an end to the two-body requirement if you want to shoot both sports and portraits. |

Since the 16.7 mp images from the 1Ds2 seem to be as good as scanned medium format film, I can't see there being any point in me upgrading from it any time soon. Mainly as I've only had it for 6 months. Having said that, since I have bought it recently there's bound to be a new model soon. Happened when I got my D60, 3 months later, 10D appears but I am glad I didn't wait, the D60 is still a great camera.

I still use and love the D60, as you say. There's been no other camera that produces its color, except perhaps for the D30.

I have a 1DIIN which I use for both sports and in the studio. I'm watching very closely to see what is coming soon as I really want a FF body. If more megapixels means the ability to print large crops then I'm all for it. If there's more dynamic range and high ISO performance then I might consider spending the big bucks.

Well 24MP would be great for cropping. Bird/wildlife shooters always need to crop and having a 20D pixel density in a FF sensor would be most welcome. Also if they release some UWA primes of the leica or Zeiss class, then I can't wait to see landscapes from such a beast. Also printing an A3+ @ 300dpi or A2 @ 240dpi will require ~22MP. I don't think Canon need worry about what Nikon is or isn't doing. If they can offer a 22MP FF camera that has demonstrably better IQ and DR than a 1Ds II and has faster frame rate it sounds good to me. Let Nikon wallow in their crop world with noisy sensors.

That comment about the 1DS for sports really isn't practical in all ways. I wouldn't worry about pixels and lens quality. I feel sometimes people worry about the most useless things and not enough of the important lol. Not meaning to step on any toes it's true myself included at times.
