FIRST OF ALL I AM A NEW MEMBER, AND MY ENGLISH ARE NOT THAT GOOD (I AM FROM GREECE).
ANYWAY I LOVE MACRO BUT I AM NOT HAPPY WITH MY DIGITAL GEAR (SIGMA 150MM MACRO DG). THE PROBLEM IS THAT IS NOT AS SHARP AS I NEED TO.I USE TO SHOOT WITH A TAMRON (MACRO 90MM ANALOG SERIES) AND I SOLD IT TO GET THE NEW SIGMA 150MM TO INCREASE THE DISTANCE FROM THE SUBJECT & TO GO TO THE DIGITAL RANGE OF LENSES. NOW COMPAIRING THE SHOTS (WITH A LARGE DEPTH OF FIELD 11F-22F) I THING THAT THE OLD TAMRON WAS SHARPER.SO ANYBODY KNOWS WHAT IS GOING ON WITH IT? WAITING FOR YOUR COMMENTS. THANKS, YANNIS. __________________

I do not have the Sigma, or the Tamron, but in all that I read, the Tamron is a bit better optically. I think the reason you got the Sigma (farther working distance), is the reason to get it over the Tamron or another 100mm range Macro lens.
If yours is a "lot" different, then try and swap the Sigma for another Sigma. Might be a slightly bad copy? |

Hello Yannis from Greece!
First of all: welcome aboard the PhotoCamel! Second: could you please write in normal, non-capitalized font? writing in capitals is considered SHOUTING on the Internet, and you may be from Greece, your English is good enough that we understand you, no need to raise your voice )Third, and finally about the lenses: a question: what camerabody are you using? The Tamron 90mm Macro, Canon 100mm Macro and Sigma 105mm Macro are considered the sharpest Macro-lenses around (in the order I gave ), so your sharpness-issue with the Tamron surprises me.I do not know the Sigma 150mm, but have read reports raving about it's sharpness, so your results are not what I would have expected... One thing I should mention: at F13/F16/F22 (depends a little on the specific camerabody) the diffraction-effect will work against you in getting a sharper image. A good read about the diffraction-effect: http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tut...hotography.htm My guess is that both lenses can't be bad, so perhaps your camera needs a trip to the servicecenter to have the AutoFocus adjusted? Hope this helps some, *my* €0.02 worth... kindest regards! Max@Home |

Thanks to ( Mr. Pickles & Max@home) about the infos, the link, and sorry about the capitals. This is my first entry in a forum. Please fix anything else i do wrong.Anyway, i will start with my film gear.
Body:canon F1/FTb/AE-1 PROG/T90 Optics:canon FD 50mm 1.4f/canon FD 35-70mm 3.5-4.5f/vivitar series1- 70-210mm 3.5f/tokina 28mm f??/ Chinon 500mm mirror (with fiting adaptor)/2x converter (not a canon)/Macro extender adjustable (not rings but rail), by canon (i do not know the proper name for it but i use to love it for macro). Light-flashmeter:minolta (do not remember type). Digital gear:Fuji finepix s7000/Canon 350D(this is the one i am using now). Optics for the 350D:canon standard EFS 18-55mm 3.5-5.6f/sigma macro 150mm 2.8f DG HMS/ sigma DC18-125 3.5-5.6f. Flash:Nissin gn48/Metz gn45. Tripod:Manfrotto 190 pro b. Head:Manfrotto 701 RC2 (for videocams). I hope i did not forgot something. I have seen the site (http://www.RC.com/tutorials/diffract...otography.HTML), and i know what are you talking about (remember some Greek books) but i have seen deference in general, bitwin the 90mm tamron & 150mm sigma. Also in most cases can not go lower than f11 because the 150mm sigma got smaller depth of field than the 90mm tamron. Anyway thanks to all again, that was question for today (but i have match more to go). Also if somebody wants to check out some of my digital work go to www.microcosmos.gr (it is not ready yet but i am working on it). Oh my God my Greek to English dictionary is on fire....Talk to you latter bye. |

Thanks re Manoli for the infos.I don't think any new lens is for my pocket right now (specially the manual canon 1:5 magnification, don't remember the type but is my macrodream for me).
Anyway i have some ideas (Greek patents, don't imagine anything expensive) about the magnification gain (i will post it soon). By the way i like your work a lot. Sorry for asking but are you in Greece? (this is what i can tell from the macroshots). Topshot my friend Yanni or John from U.K. I have never been there (no hollydays for me the past 2 years work work work you all know i think). No comments about food from me my friend JDArt, i have been seek for a week so i don't want to torches my self imaging the taste of it. (Correct me if any mistakes generally speaking). Also thanks about the Quote button info JDArt. This message is got something for everyone...next time. Thanks again. |
