Default protect your gear..

I often see people carrying the latest dslr and but it in a normal bag or rucksack.

I just have bought a Second hand Lowe Slingshot 200 AW (it hasn't arrived yet)
but want to bring this to the attention!

These backs are versatile, protect your precious (yes from the Ring(tm)) making it possible to sling the back before the belly and open it up to grab the camera out

Lowepro - Sling Bags

there are 4 bag's and NO i do NOT have shares at lowepro..

so portect your gear and buy a camera bag.. that rulesz

more to come when my back comes in!

There are places I wouldn't dare to carry something that even in the slightest way looks like a photo bag. Those boys on scooters are very fast. So sometimes, for my own protection (and my gear), I use a bag that does not attract any attention.
But most of the time I carry my camera in my hand, ready to use, and a back pack for extra lenses. I'm always wondering if a slingshot really is that easy, just one sling and it's in front of you, or is it a struggle to get it from your back to your front. So I'm curious about your experience with it.

Hi Andre,

There are places i would only want to go to with the cheapest digital p_s i have (Konika minolta dimage Z3 4MP')

i 'll will post my feelings as sonn as it it there but for the 35 euro i paid it is dirt cheap but like said second hand..

If i want to travel light i'll take just two camera's one P&S (mostly a L12 (nikon) or Powershot A540 (canon) or sometimes a old but good konika minolta Dimage Z3 and one dlsr some accu;s adn memory in a samsonite bag..

on holliday's i'll probably end up using my berghaus rucksack end will porbably use the slingshot on phototrips with nilkon club netherlands .. or perhaps camel club netherlands trips..

byt i'll keep you posted..

I agree and really need to pick one of these up for day to day outtings. My friend has one and I really like it. I've been getting by with a holster for out-and-abouts, otherwise my Airport Security is with me on big jobs. That sling pack is a nice little piece of gear though.

I agree, protection is key. If your going to spend a few hundred or a few grand for a camera, consider the camera a valuable investment thats worth protecting.

LCD Monitor Protectors are great too. Peal them off, place them over the LCD and your good. If the LCD where to come into contact with something the protector receives most of the impact. After a Nikon d90 drop last year, the protector was scratched and cracked but the LCD was still in perfect condition.

I had the the SS 200AW and traded it for the SS 300AW, and am much happier now! I couldn't fit the 70-200 mounted on the body(hood reversed) in the 200 the way it was designed to "sling". The 200 and 300 are really great bags though!!

It's rare to see people running around with two systems with such a similar lens collection. If I didn't misidentify one of the lenses, you got the focal length from 28-55 covered by every single lens in the pack.

What's your experience with this choice of lenses and the two camera systems? Is the added volume and weight worth the effort compared to a single camera set-up with two well chosen lenses, one one the camera and one in the pack?

Hi, the lenses may be familiar what range concerns the camera's are different waht possibiliets and speed .

Yes i know i am a nikoncaniot , i shoot 75-80 % with nikon D70 and D50 and about 20% with the Canon eos 300 D

hmm i will identyfy them for you (and the rest (eternal pirce fame goes to me ))

the first lens of the 4 is the tammy 28-200 xr di if aspherical (nikon mount), the second lens is the canon ef 24-85 usm "goldfinger" (canon), the third lens is the famous nikon nikor af-s 18-70 dx ed swm aspherical if (nikon) and the forth lens a nikon nikkor af-s 18-55 dx vr swm aspherical if (nikon)

the canon body is fitted with the CANON ef-s 18-55 IS lens (THE VERSION OF THE NORMAL KITLENS BUT NOW WITH IMAGE STABILISATION ).

the main difference between the canon eos 300d and the mostly used nikon D70
are:

nikon : 6.1 MP (eff) 6.3 MP total , 3 fps , very detailed menu compaired to canon eos 300d), most heavy camera i have what weight, excellent writing speed (eos 300d writes very slow)

canon: 6.3 mp (eff) 6.5 mp total, 2.5 fps (feels like 1.5 compared to nikon D70 and also D50) , very easy menu no fuss less possibilites (to sum up a few : no auto iso, no long exposure nr system, no possibility to change metering your self )
i like the slight higher resolution and it makes me more in control over the picture taking, etc than with nikon, but most of the times i need the higher writing speed of the nikon it empy's the buffer far faster with a slower card than the canon with a faster cf card .

yes i think it is a plus to me , the weight in the lowe pro is even with a lot of my gear in it still carryable , and easy to access

Even when you compare the D50 to the 300d , the 300d wins on the resolution , but losses the rest of the battle to the D50 , the d50 also has 2.5 fps but it feels like 4 fps (writes even faster than de D70, but is limited to 2 gb (SD) where te eos 300d is limited to 8gb (CF) and nikon d70 with d70's firmware i believe also has the limit of 8 gb (CF)

cheers

dirk

Thank you Dirk,

this is an interesting and unusual approach to things, but I guess it isn't for me. I'm more from the faction that prefers a smaller kit with less overlap in functions.

we can't be all the same ..

the reason for the D50 was / is the iso handeling and newer processing engine and simply because it is the best nikon digital ever made and i could obtain a heavy used example for a small sum of money..

the D70 was bought after my first canon eos 300 D (with hacked firmware) irritated me , my current eos 300 d is bareley used and has it's current 1.11.1 firmware and i like to keep it original

i had (and still have) a F65 longer so i allready did have nikon glass , the most is from the f65 and only the dx models have been bought later , the 18-55 is bought new the rest second hand like 98.9% of my gear.

cheers

dirk

It's not hard to guess when you leave the answer in your signature

By the way, do you really see a difference between 6.3 and 6.1 MP? Is it not just the in camera processing which makes the difference?
