Default Need help with tripod

Hi guys. I'm looking to buy a tripod. I was looking at a Manfrotto 725B and a Slick Pro 500DX. Are you guys familiar with these products? Need Advise. Thanks

i ahve one of the sliks and i think its a pretty good tripod for the money!! it holds a lot of weight for its size and is easy to collapse and set up! the AMT is pretty strong stuff and seems to hold up to normal to excessive wear and tear! i also like the detachable head so you can always upgrade that piece later if you want, or switch it for a ball-head, if thats what you want to do.

Take a look at the Manfrotto 3021. A bit more outlay $$, but very solid for it's weight. I have reservations concerning the ball head on the 725. A bit flimsy-looking. Probably OK with the camera horizontally, but vertically? Sometimes these things are almost impossible to lock, without the camera slipping. Is there a store nearby where you could "demo" it first? Good luck!

I have a Manfrotto 3221 it is rock solid. I use it for videography, light video cameras, and with my 40D with a Manfrotto ball head. Very stable. A bit on the heavy side but it extends up to almost 7 feet with the center column extended.

I'm going to a local camera shop tomorrow to look at it. Hopefully it'll be alright. I'm also looking at the Slik 500 dx.

I bought the Slik pro 700DX a while back. Went with it because I wanted the higher reach, as I am 6' 2" tall. I have been very pleased with it. It is very steady and very easy to set up. A little heavier than some of the manfrottos, but also less expensive. I did purchase the manfrotto 322RC2 head for it and really like the combination.

For Christmas this year I got a new tripod and ballhead. I found an old discontinued Manfrotto 3011N tripod (legs) and the Manfrotto 486RC2 ball head. I love it. It is a bit heavy to carry a lot, but it is rock solid. I have never had a ball head before and it is SWEET!! It gets nice and tall also. The center post will come out of the top and mount from the bottom for macro work. I looked at the Manfrotto 725B and while I thought it was nice, this set up is a lot sturdier and much more versatile.

This is the reviews section, there is a Camera Accessories category that has a lot of relevant posts, and it might be worth posting there for information.
