Thumbs up Well done testing of UV filters...VERY interesting

Tested was some 20 lens filters from the most expesive and highest rated down to economy filters. Be prepared to be surpised, as well as to learn something. Excellent article to my mind.

I have always used B&W ones, and a couple ZOMEi ones (they didn't rate those)....

They rated the B+W filter I use, but I looked up the performance and freedom from glare and other artifacts before I bought mine. Lensrentals merely confirmed that I made a good choice. That said, I use mine only infrequently, when I have a special reason for protection. The UV blocking for the filter I use was only mediocre, but that isn't why I selected it; digital imagers, unlike most film, is relatively insensitive to UV.

Whatever filter you're using, if you
have no complaint with your IQ, no
"objective" tests should lead you to
doubt your filter.

If you're simply against filter use at
all, thaz your religion and we don't
discuss that here.

OTOH if you have no experience yet,
but are in the market for a filter, it's
prolly useful to read test reports to
avoid the absolute losers, if any. To
pay extra for a 'Winner' over a 'Just
OK' is to assume that you're capable
of making technically nearly perfect
images, almost at will.

Some people are actually capable of
that. It doesn't actually make their
pictures LOOK any better, but WTH,
"it keeps them off the street"

And acoarst the fun thing is where a
survey indicates that price is not the
indicator of the winners.
