Default CD-BCNPE3 Battery Charger for EOS 1Ds MKII

I searched for an alternative to the battery charger that comes as original equipment for the Canon 1Ds MK II for a while and found the CD-BCNPE3 in a website from Singapore (http://www.eastgear.com/shop/product...roducts_id=621) a few months back but was reluctant to buy. I recently found the charger for the same price (http://www.naturescapes.net/store/pr...&cat=12&page=1) in the USA and bought one.

The CD-BCNPE3 functions well and charges a battery in the same amount of time as the the one that comes with the camera. It gets hotter to the touch than the original equipment but it beats the later in size and weight. It is about 3 3/4 (L) X 2 1/4 (W) X 1 3/8 (H) vs 6.5 (L) X 3 (W) X 2 (H) [all measures in inches] for the Canon. It plugs directly to an outlet and has a short cord (13 inches) to connect to the battery vs the Canon charger that needs an extension cord to connect to an outlet and then two leads to charger two batteries simultaneously (never have need to do this). The big advantage for me is the reduction in bulk and weight while traveling. It is expensive at @ $136 (including shipping) but well worth it. Any one wants to buy a Canon NC-E2 charger?

Thanks for the imfo. Looks like it will work on British mains voltage as well.

Yes, mine came with an European adapter (with two round plugs). From what I can recall from your country, I encountered various types, some were 3 pronged.

Update to original submission. The device failed last May while in Tanzania when used with 240 volts at the end of the trip and was able to finish with the two spare batteries and upon return it was replaced with a new one by the seller. The replacement unit plastic case partially melted while in Europe this month--again while being used with 240 volts but still works. Also the price dropped by 50 % in the Asian market but it still about $135 in the USA.

Well i would be a little more careful about buying rplacement part other than orignial equepment as regard less it should not be too hot in the first place to touch. was the battery hot or the chargin unit too hot please do a safe thing and put it on a non combustiable surface. please be carefull.
oh was it passed by the consumer associate or saftey board?

My purchase of the charger was not an issue of buying other than original equipment, the original charger that comes with the Canon EOS 1Ds MkII is as big as a "shoe box" and this age of limited size of carry-on equipment I needed to minimize size and weight. If Canon would have marketed a smaller unit such as those for the EOS-20, I would I bought it. I even requested them to market one. They are just not responsive to the the needs of their customers; no wonder they just lost #1 in sales to Nikon last month.

Well thats understandable who would want to carry around a shoe box size charger anyway.
True Wish the company would listen to coustomer needs.
Bear in mind saftey first.
