Default MeFoto Monopod and Neewer small ball head

Okay, I am a sucker for a low price. B&H Photo has a MeFOTO WalkAbout Monopod on sale for $34.00 shipped. I bought the yellow-banded one and am quite pleased with it. I use it mainly for low light football and use either a Nikon D800 or D750 with the 300mm 2.8 big lens. This is a heavy combo and the monopod handles it superbly. Next, I was going through my favorite place, eBay, to see about another monopod head such as the Manfrotto I now have. I found a deal that was too good to pass up, even if it had to be used as a paperweight. It was the Neewer-Metal-360-Rotating-Panoramic-Tripod-Ball-Head-w-1-4-034-Quick-Shoe-Plate which was $12.99 shipped with no tax. Well, my PayPal was debited and the ball head ordered. It came shortly afterward and it looked sturdy and well made. I put it on the MeFOTO and off to the first Football game. Game started at 7:00 so some light still present and the combination of camera, lens, head and monopod worked well with the caveat that the head does slip a little with that much weight. It worked out well for me as I like the little slip since I can have the ball creep in the direction I want and it is steady when I shoot. Certainly, the head is not Arca Swiss or RRS steady but for the price it is great. So the moral of the story is that for under the price of just a regular monopod without a head, I have a working combo for less than $50.00. The cheap head has an Arca Swiss Mount but the plate is not being used because it has stops on both ends which mandates opening the clamp all the way instead of sliding the plate in. When I need stability I use my Gitzo tripod with Acratech head.

Glad you are liking it and a good buy all the way around. A monopod is very useful not just for sports but for may photographic purposes.

Personally I have never been a ballhead fan on a monopod. For tilt I can just support the leg and tilt as needed. For portrait orientation with my 200 f2.0, 300 f2.8 or 400 f2.8 I can rotate them inside the mount ring. If I used a ball head for portrait orientation it tosses the weight off to the side of the monopod.
