I bought a new tripod to use on vacation last week, and thought I'd share my experience with it. I was canoeing down the Delaware River in Pennsylvania and didn't want to bring my big tripod along.
It's a Digital Concepts Seven-Section Tripod I got from Wal-Mart for $15. Collapsed, it's about 10" long and weighs about one pound. With its seven sections it expands to about 40 inches tall, and can be locked at any height in between. The head swivels up and down, left and right. It looks like it should twist for vertical shots, but I can't get that piece to budge. Without a camera on it, it's unstable; with my Canon 20D w/17-85mm lens on it, it was more unstable. The legs buckle a little under the weight. It's highly recommended, for what it is. It's small, light, cheap, and much bigger than a table-top tripod. Just what I wanted. __________________
