Default Cades Cove, TN this weekend. Might buy Grad ND Filter

I want to experiment with with some Graduated Neutral Density filers to correctly expose mainly sunrise shots.

I believe I am wanting this type of filer. To where it will have the darker at the top of the filter to help correctly have the sun "darker" so I can correctly expose the area below it.

I don't want to go overhand, but am only spending one day in the Cove and want to make the most of it.

What do you suggest. A graduated, split. How many stops (I will mainly use it for sunrises and the sunset that evening)?

On the cheap try a Cokin Graduated grey. I have a 2 stop soft grad. that works well. Have you considered two or three exposures and graduated masks to stitch in Post Processing. If you try multible exposures, just change the shutter speed, not the aperture for under and over. Also, check out the HDR Forum.

I love shooting HDR but just wanted to try these out. They give a different effect than HDR's that I have seen. I might not be processing my HDR's right though.

Hi there,

I use the Cokin grey grad a lot - the best way is to bracket as there is not one real right exposure.
With digital it is easy to take three or five shots and discard the unwanted ones.

Cheers moxi1
