For the outside I use a micro fiber cloth and if I've been to the beach or dusty areas I use a dampened cloth and wipe dry with the same. For lenses, I use a blower followed by a soft sable brush and if needed (finger prints and such) I use premoistened Zeiss Lens Cloths from Walmart. For the inside, first the camera goes on a tripod facing lens down, I place a damp cloth around one leg and touching the floor to reduce static electricity. I then hold a vacuum hose between my knees about 18" away from the camera. This just draws the airflow away from the camera and doesn't have a vacuuming effect in the camera. I remove the lens and gently blow out the mirror box and focus screen with a Rocket Blower (don't blow on the shutter). I then open the shutter and blow out the sensor area and across the filter over the sensor. I then clean the mounting end of the lens and mount it. I used to have dust problems and I believe this was due to just moving alot of it around, but the vacuum system takes care of that. Just do not try to vacuum the inside of the camera! I use the Zeiss wipes on the back LCD and eye piece also if needed. . The best brushes I have found are womens makeup brushes or anti static brushes made for cleaning slides/negs before scanning.
There is a good tutorial for sensor cleaning on Thom Hogan's site. www.bythom.com |

Hi there,
As the above person, I have purchased a retractable lipstick type make-up brush, ideal for brushing off dust and sand from the camera and lens body. A bulb type blower, like the Giotto Rocket, and finally I use a common household fibro cloth which I dedicate back to the washing up after I have used it several times and it has gotten a bit grubby. I don't use any solvents, should there be a bit stubborn dirt on the lens the tip of the tongue does the magic trick! Cheers moxi1 __________________
