Default recommendations for a good travel monopod?

I'm looking for a fairly simple monopod to take out trips/hikes/wanders what have you - i'm leaning towards a dynatran pro AM-101B from amvona because its about the right height/weight combo (67", 2lbs) - but i also wanted to see if other folks had any good suggestions of either what to buy or where to shop - thanks!

I picked up this one CFM2560 Flashpoint F-2560 Carbon Fiber Monopod, 4 Section Leg, Supports 11.0 lbs., Maximum Height 55". when my last one was stolen, and have been very happy. I added a bogen head and a RRS mount Really Right Stuff ... The Low Capacity Monopod Solution, and in my opinion, it is perfect.

@eibhis

First of all WELCOME TO THE CAMEL! Glad to have you aboard.

I have two Amvona tripods and am very well satisfied with both. I think their quality compares very favorably with the top of the line brands, and their prices are most reasonable.

I have a Manfrotto Carbon Fiber One 449, which I absolutely love for the featherweight,more and more the older I get. The one DGS recommends looks very similar and is $30 less expensive.

Just make sure it's tall enough for you. There is nothing worse then a semi-crouch over a too short monopod for the tall folks.

Add at least a bogen tilt head for ease of use at full extension so you don';t have to lean the thing forward to look down.
and if you want to go the whole hog a arca swiss style clamp - really right stuff plate/assembly. Nothing slower than trying to unscrew a monopod from a lens or camera when you need to hoof it.
The RRS monopod head is hideous expensive but you get the dift. RRS stuff is the tops if you have the $$.

How the leg locks on extension is key too. Turny tabs get lose (some of the older and cheaper bogens) and Gitzos twisty locking screw needs two hands. The Bogen CarbonOne (once alled) is the leg lock style that is really easy to use with one hand and never has needed tightening in all my years of having one.

I also like to have one with fewer sections to mess with but if your traveling and need something small that might be possible.

Hope this helps.
