Default Rain Gear

Hi,

Any suggestions for rain gear for a Nikon D300, my longest lens is a 70-200.

Thanks for the help.

Light rain, or a hurricane downpour rain?

If the first one, just shoot. That camera has some sealing. I would, but then again, I use an E-3

The OPTECH Rainsleeves are very inexpensive (two for $7.00) and will protect your camera quite well. They are not very sturdy however and are almost throwaway items.

Kata makes nice raincovers:

I used one of the E-702 models on a ten day very wet trip to Alaska recently and it did just fine.

Storm Jacket Covers are also nice:

I use this: AquaTech Sport Basic

You should be able to squeeze the 70-200 under it.

Cheaper than any of the above:
cut a sleeve off of one of those emergency plastic raincoats (3 bucks?) that many people keep in the back of their car in case they need to change a tyre in the pouring rain. Fix the cut-off sleeve around the lens hood with a sturdy rubber band or gaffer tape. Who cares what it looks like! Add a color neutral, zero factor UV filter for lens protection.
Good for any weather but a real hurricane.
For a real hurricane you need an underwater housing (to also protect from flying debris).

Another vote for the OpTech rainsleeves. Plus, I usually carry a couple of almost clear trash bags as well.

Hi there,
I don't like rain gear for cameras, but have an inexpensive rain-poncho whith slits for my arms, it fits over myself as well as over the camera bag. When it rains I just have my arms inside and point the camera through the head hole but well protected by the hood. --- It sounds more complicated than it is!

Cheers moxi1
