Default Better Beamer info

Just for some info, the better beamer model FX 3 for the canon 580 ex flash fits excellent. Once its on it stays there. I also own the FX 2 for the 550ex flash and it just does not fit as well, it still works but you have to fiddle a bit with it. So there is no confusion the FX 3 only fits on the 580ex flash

Can you give a brief tutorial on using the beamer? How do you have to set the flash?

What works best for me is I have the flash set usally around -1 1/3 most of the time, however this can vary a bit. I also set the camera to -1/3. Then I let the camera and flash do its thing. Also I do have the flash set to high speed sync. I found the beamer works great in the shot shoe on my 300mm but I like the results better on the flash bracket with my 600mm

I have the FX3 for my 580 EX and love it. I highly recommend that people planning on buying a Better Beamer read Moose Peterson's review and caveats available at: http://www.moosepeterson.com/gear/betterbeamer.html. While I'm not a huge Moose fan, he does bring the Beamer into perspective rather well as to what it is and more importantly isn't used for. People planning on using the Beamer as a flash extender to blast gigaton levels of photons light out 10000 yards or startle aliens on Alpha Centari will be sadly disappointed. It is a tool with alot of misunderstanding about it. Knowing when and more importantly why you want to use the Beamer is vital for living happily with it.
