My new camera is comming with a lithium ion battery nd I was curious how to maintain it.
Should I charge it only after its almost completely empty. Can i charge it when there is still a lot of life. I coMe upon these questions because my moms went shot after leaving it on a charger for too long(LAPTOP) __________________

Batteries need to be exercised. All batteries have "memory" but Li-ion and NiMh are pretty resistant to the memory issues that plagued NiCAD batteries.
Charge it when you need to but don't leave it on the charger for days at a time. Most chargers will go into a "trickle" charge mode after it's charged but it's better to be safe than sorry. Regarding your mother's laptop: different story. Your camera battery can't be charging and used at the same time so you'll get the charge/discharge/recharge cycle going quite a bit. The laptop probably wasn't discharged at all but remained hooked up to a charger for a very long period of time. I've found that running a laptop down to shutdown once a month will keep the battery in good working order for years. I have a five year old laptop that still gives me 2 hours after the original 2.5 hours it did when it was brand new. If you do this, change your laptop's power management to 2-3% before it starts shutting down automatically for best results. |
