I use a bracket made by Really Right Stuff. An expensive approach as there are cheaper, and perhaps even better, alternatives. My reasoning for using this particular bracket have more to do with my use of arca-swiss camera and lens brackets than any other reasoning. While this may sound as a negative review of what I use, it really isn't. The RRS equipment is very well made, very sturdy and work well.

There are quite a few different type flash brackets which are designed to keep the flash unit over the axis of the lens when the camera is in both the horizontal and vertical positions.
One of the meat and potatoes type brackets is the Stroboframe and the Chinese knock-offs of the Stroboframe. There are two basic types of these brackets: flash-flip and camera-flip. They work just like the terms indicate. When placing the camera in the vertical position, you simply flip the flash over and it will be over the top of the lens. The problem with this type of unit is that when you are bouncing with a diffuser-reflector, you need to reposition that diffuser-reflector when you switch from horizontal to vertical. With a camera-flip bracket, you flip the camera to vertical with the flash remaining in the same place as in the horizontal mode. I personally prefer this type of bracket because I don't need to take the extra step shifting the diffuser-reflector. This saves time and may save a shot. I have attached images of both type brackets to show the difference. I have not, in the interest of simplifying the illustration, used the required Canon Off-camera flash Cord in these illustrations. BTW: The Chinese knock-off models seem well built and arecertainly less expensive than the genuine Stroboflash units. |

There is a bracket thread once a month here. If you go up to the menu bar, and click on search, typing "bracket" will yield a ton of informative threads. Some have pictures of people's rigs as well, which is really interesting.
