Strap/sling help

I have been trying to find a camera strap that I saw a few weeks ago now im getting a larger lens will help carrying it around, well i hope.

I was a sling type that goes across the chest the camera hangs by the tripod mount and lets you pick the camera from the waist and draw it your to your face in one movement without moving the strap, any ideas what im on about, and if so are they any good? at the moment when carrying the camera i put it in that position and find it comfortable, but taking pictures is a pain as i have to take the strap over my head the position the camera to take. Im sorry if im not being very clear

I just received a strap like you're talking about from BlackRapid. It's a delight to use. It's a bit on the pricey side, but I've seen people that have made their own version from 1 inch wide web strap. Here's a link to BlackRapid's website.

That looks like it would be great for carrying a second camera at weddings. Would be really interested in hearing some actual hands-on reviews of this. I'd rather hear the negatives than the positives.

Well, I haven't really found anything negative about it, yet. I've only had it a very brief period. I bought the RS2 version. The piece that attaches to the tripod hole can be a little cumbersome to put on and take off on a routine basis. Since I tend to use a tripod quite often and I also use a L plate on the camera and plates on my lenses that attach to an Arca-Swiss clamp, I attached a quick release AS clamp so that I can quickly attach or remove the strap as needed. It is my intent to write a review of this product soon and I will include images of the strap, as well as my modification.

do you think it would fit a 6'6" 54" chest bloke? does it have plenty of room for expandability?

I'm 6'2" and not a lightweight. It fits me well and there's room for more expansion. I'll look at that a bit closer and get back to you.

ok...just had a quick look at it and there's another 18 inches or so of webbing left for adjustments after fitting it to my frame. You should have no problems with fit.

I would want/need this to hang on my neck for hours. I am using a couple of the OpTech straps right now and they don't really work, comfortably for this, how would this strap work out?

well this hangs from the shoulder so i suppose that would give some relief in its self, while searching for a thread on this sling i came across this

I haven't worn it for any significant length of time, but it doesn't sit around your neck like a traditional strap does, with the weight of the camera and lens tugging against it. It rests on your shoulder and distributes the weight across your shoulder and the camera and lens rest at your side. Because of the way it attaches, the camera lays differently allowing the lens to trail behind the camera rather than stick out in front of it as it does with a traditional strap. So far, I've found it much much more comfortable than OpTech or Upstrap.... more along the lines of having the Optic slung over your shoulder in a similar fashion.

well i got my r-strap 2 and used it for the first time properly at download on saturday and all i can say is its a joy to use, it had a d300 and 70-200mm f2.8 on it and i couldnt feel the weight at all, it rested on my hip with the lens falling down the back of my leg and was at a great height to rest my hand on the back of the camera to protect / guide it around obsticles / people etc. i found it very easy and natural to lift and take pictures, and most importantly was very comfortable!!

I too have & use the Black Rapid strap(RS-1). Just last weekend, I shot two long weddings with it. I really like and recommend it. I have nothing negative to say about it. I would assume that a second one would be great for shooting with two rigs. The few times that I did use two rigs, I had my main camera on the R strap, with my second rig over one shoulder on the Up-Strap. This combination worked quite well. There is plenty of adjustment room for a large sized person. There are pages of reviews on it in the Canon forum.
