I just shot two long weddings with the Black Rapid Strap. It ROCKED! I love this strap!

I bought it and don't like it. I think it's because I'm too active or something. The lens would bang against my hip and the darn Auto/Manual focus switch would get flipped!! In fact, if you want to buy mine... By the way, the lens I was using was the Canon 70-200 F2.8L IS.

do you have it too high? i wear it with the camera body on my hip not the lens, try it lower, i had mine at vegas for 10 days straight 10 hours a day and it was a dream, a normal strap would have murdered me after one day!

Thanks, Dave, I'll give that a try. I have to admit, I have a bad taste in my mouth about it now, but I spent the bucks, so I guess I should try to make it work.

Default Consider the OPTECH Dual Harness

I have found the Optech Dual harness to be a great way to carry a pair of cameras; far better than my original OPTECH Reporter Strap which concentrated the weight of both camera/lenses on my neck.

The OPTECH Dual Harness distributes the weight across my shoulders.

Dual Harness | Demo Page#

I have made one slight modification. I attached a carabiner clip to each of the waist adjustment straps at the sides of my shooting vest. Clipping the camera straps to the vest with the carabiners keeps the cameras/lenses from swinging freely as I move around.

I made my own from 1" webbing. I made a custom aluminum bracket to attach a mini carbiner. I use it while hiking with a 28-70mm f2.8 Nikkor on my camera, I love it! (Notice the biner is rated for 150# working load!)

Of course you can make it as large as you need if you custom make one.

You may want to replace that biner, with a "locking" biner. Coming from a climbing background, I can tell you that in some circumstances, the webbing can become twisted, and become unattached from the biner. A locking biner of that size is less than $3.00

Default I 2nd the OP/Tech dual harness...

IN SHORT, I recommend the Op/Tech DUAL HARNESS too.

I must be honest and say that price was the main reason I went with Op/Tech but there was a second reason - security.

The BR system has one attachment to the camera/lens. My concern was that if that one connection fails (whether it be the webbing, not likely but stay with me, or the BR connector, CR2 or F2 or something like that) I lose everything.

With the Op/Tech you have 2 connections to the camera outfit. If one fails then at least I have the other connection that might save the day.

Now I know the 2 systems connect differently and some like the connection at the tripod mount. I am ok either way - connected to the tripod mount or connected to the normal camera strap guides. However, the Op/Tech can be set up to connect to the tripod mount threads too - I just left my quick release plate on the camera and connected a strap through the ring that helps u tighten the screw. THEN I ran another strap to the left side of the camera body and looped it through the strap connecting to the QR plate. With the right adjustment, I could carry the camera like the BR set up but had the additional connection to the camera just in case the QR connection failed.

Having said the above, which may be clear as muddy water, I am pleased with the Op/Tech Dual Harness. I only wish that padded straps were thicker and had a different fabric that would be less prone to sliding around. Albeit, when worn properly the weight is very well distributed and the "lack of extra padding" probably isn't that big of a real issue.

The OT dual harness offers a lot of variety too - watch the video.

Ok yall talked me into it...lol. I picked up the RS-5. I'm thinking its the same as the RS-2 cause I didn't see the RS-2 on their site.
This would be ideal on football Friday night, as I usually pace the field the whole game shooting for the high school football web-site.
Although my Smug Mug strap is great for just carrying around it's not the best for action shots, like the RS strap would produce.
Which I created the Web site and do the photos on my own time, just for experience.

I have and use the RS-1, and have had nothing but positive experiences with it. That includes the older, and the newer attaching hardware.

I've had a RS-1 for a while and found it a joy to carry my D90 +70-200VR as long as you can adjust the balance point to the lens points horizontal to the ground across the my butt or mid thigh. Below that there is a lot of bumping on the legs while walking and higher than that is a little more awkward to reach for. Also it is best when carrying a long heavy lens all day, switching to a light small lens causes the bouncing to increase.

Overall I love it. Besides the easy of carrying, moving about and keeping two hands free, it also seems to intimidate people who would normally be eying an expensive lens/camera combo as a easy mealticket if slung over a shoulder the way tourists do. It feels a lot safer in bad neighborhoods of the world. I end up having my longer lens out ready to use more often as a result. I think that is the single best attribute. You can't take the shot if the lens you want is in the camera bag out of sight. It is one of the better and most used camera accessories I've gotten.

I too saw this strap at a camera expo and right away saw that it would make for a more comfortable way to carry the weight. I have a ProPhoto Flash Bracket- Pro E with the rotating grip. With the Flash attached it was very comfortable to waunder around for hours with this strap....it is a great addition to my bag of equipment
