It just never dawned on me that the thing was unsafe. I remember hearing at the convention that I was at that the problem had been addressed, so I ordered. I guess it didn't sit in my head strongly enough that the fix was the little cheap plastic tube. You and I KNOW that a much better clip can be made.

There is a replacement clip in the works, but for one reason or another, the shipment has been delayed for the last 4 months. I'm not sure what the status of that is now.

I think all this a good idea but I have to figure out a quick disconnect. A cheap one.

I have ordered a couple of these. I will let you know what I think.

I don't have a demo, but I use it all the time with a Canon camera (either my 1Ds or my 40D) and the Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS lens. Because I use a L plate and the arca-swiss clamp system, when the camera is at rest, it lies downward and flat on my hip comfortably with mild swing as I walk. With a normal neck strap, the lens will lay such that it points out from my chest and swings back and forth as I walk.

Another vote for the BR strap.

While the Y Strap might be best suited for the P&S/SLR-like compacts/RF w/light lens, I'd never use one with my usual set up.

Has anyone figured this out yet?

Maybe receive the parts ordered. I don't know what direction to go. I have a case that goes around my waist but it is a pain to get in and out when it is in place. I went to a parade today and I just held the camera the whole time.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

I think I'm missing something.

Figured what out yet? Something about the Y-strap or the Black Rapid strap?

What kind of help do you need?

Sorry, KellyL and GDS ordered some parts to make a better strap ( or at least fix the R strap)

I was wondering if they got anything to work so I could order something.

I'm just guessing, but couldn't you use a keyring and a quick release plate to convert the Y-strap to the equivalent of the R-strap?

I got the part, and like it quite a bit. It is a little rigid, but that is what you want. It is made of hard steel, so I am sure if it will wear out the part on the r-strap or not. The only thing I don't like is it does not swivel like the original part. If you push the two parts together, you can disconnect it very easily, so that is not a problem. The shipping was outrageous!

If you didn't mind a diy project, you could order the parts and make it yourself for less. Just buy some webbing, buckle, connection from r-strap and then the ITW MASH Hook.

I ordered some parts, and, well, some of them are just too funny. Not having them in hand and ordering them "blindly" some of huge. It looks like I have UBER SECURITY. It is kind of funny...you can see my paranoia coming through...so I am trying to figure out what size of a carbiner to order.

Here's my DIY strap, I'm pretty sure my cmaera weighs less than the 150# rating of the mini biner. All I need now is nice soft cushion for my shoulder ....
The strap:

Connected to a 1/4-20 bolt with key ring through a drilled hole

Connected to a quick release braket

Michael I kind of like your set up. What is the quick connect? I like the idea of the carribener but I would get one that has a threaded lock (just for safety) What is the strap from?

The strap is form some old bag I didn't even have any more. It originaly had two plastic clips which I removed and replaced with a release buckle. That is not a climbing carbiner, I havent seen any locking ones this small. If you're worried about it coming open you could slide a piece of heat shrink tubing over the gate and shrink it in place.

The quick connect is for my tripod, the small ring will fold down so I can still use it on the tripod.
