Default Remotes

I read how you should use a remote all the time so you won't cause any movement on the camera from pressing the button.

Is it really worth it walking around taking shots with a remote? or better when you're setting up the camera stationary on a tripod?

Be realistic and consider using it on a tripod. Otherwise just make sure your shutter speed is high enough to cancel out any camera shake.

Well ask yourself this:

"If I use a remote all the time, who does it help when I am still holding the camera in the first place?"

Use a shutter speed faster than the lens focal length is usually guideline #1. (if focal length is 200mm, then you need at least 1/250sec, 1/500sec is better).

Use Image Stabilization lenses or bodies would be a good guideline #1.5

Use a Tripod, Monopod or other support device for the next level of rigidity.

Use a tripod AND a remote cable trigger or wireless trigger for even better results.

Use a tripod and remote cable in combination with the cameras timer function for the ultimate.

The last few are usually really required on macro or very critical DOF images...
