Default A dumb monopod/rotating collor questions

Just got Nikon 70-200 VR 2.8 for outdoor sports. I am planning to get a Bogen monopod (680B or 681B) with a Bogen 3229 head. I've never used a long/heavy zoom like this before.

My dumb question...

I'll obviously mount the lens onto the monopod/head using the tripod collar. Can I keep the rotating tripod collor loose while I shoot, so I can switch from landscape to portrait mode without having to loosen/tighten after each frame?

Thanks for your response!

Yes. I only tighten my rotating tripod collar when I need to move to another shooting position.

I usually just handhold my 70-200mm f/2.8 VR though.

Long as it don't shift forward where the colar will meet the body.
then it should do. or just have it slightly snug but easy to rotate the camera but do watch for scratch marks. not sure if it has a pad or point or indent on the lens.
just a thought.
Cheers

The 70-200 collar doesn't move forwards or backwards, and it is permanently-attached to the lens. Only the foot is removable.

No problem, glad you're helping. =)

I just wanted to point out that it isn't a problem with this lens.
