I'm new here and have a question about backpack. I need to get one for carrying my gear around (not all the time) and also had a trip in the summer. I will use the backpack to carry a 20D with grip, 70-200mm f4L, Tamron 17-50mm, 85mm f1.8, some filters, battery charger, and small items.
Can some of you recommend one in the 100 or below that can fit my equipment? Couple of the stores around here were closed so can't really check them out. I've seen the Tamrac (the smaller ones) and couple others that were out of my budget. Anyone have experience with the Lowepro Flipside 300 or the Fastpacks 250/350? Thanks for any feedback. __________________

I just never liked a backpack for using while shooting, but I can see one being useful to get the gear to a location for shooting. Jay (Worm234) had a cool one that I thought was pretty decent, but I can't remember what kind it was.

I replaced my lowepro trekker with a belt and pouch system.
I have lower back issues and the belt works better. A nit with the back packs is i've dumped my gear out on several occasions picking it up off the ground. My bad.welcome to the camel. |

Thanks for the suggestions.
David, from what I've seen, I imagine that can happen. jfrancho, that is the site I went and was interested in the Flipside 300. I don't usually go out and shoot, but when I do, most of my shooting will be in the woods. So I think a shoulder or belt bag will probably kill me. Keep it coming. Thanks. |

Stay far away from the shoulder bags..
Find a bag you like on line then take your gear to a retailer and fit it saves any problems later. I bought my wife the tamrac backpack the small one but holds a rebel xti ,a 300 is lens and a couple smaller ones with room in the top for wallet ect. Sorry no model name on the bag ?? just tamrac SAS system its the newest by them very well padded shoulder straps and mid staaps. might be worth spending the extra 35 dollars or so. |

I have a backpack that has an inner insert that fits tightly in the pack and that is where you put all the gear. You can easily remove it so the backpack can be used for other things. It seemed cool when I got it and I like the space for all the gear and It's comfortable to use but I hate going thru all the zippers to get thru tto the insert. I think it's a Quantaray.

I got the Lowepro Bag and it is awesome!!
Here is the link to there site and the closest bag to what I have I could find. Very high quality and extremely durable. I use it everyday at work and for photography work. I can carry all my camera gear and my laptop which is great. If I go hiking I just take out the Laptop and it is perfect for my needs. I carry the Canon 40D, Sigma 10-20, Canon EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS, Canon 70-200 F/2.8 IS, Tons of filters, and the tripod. http://products.lowepro.com/product/CompuTrekker-Plus-AW,1925,16.htm Best, Jay |

I use the Vertex 100...I like the all weather zippers and it holds my D300, 70-200, sb600, TC, 12-24, fisheye, 28-75, filters, cleaning kit, tripod, etc....and also a small laptop...
It is great for hauling alot of stuff, but not good for quick gear changes when walking or in a hurry... I have one of the slingbags from Lowepro, which will carry a body, 3 lenses, short and mid-range zooms and has a great little pocket up top for personal stuff + a rain cover or a flash....I use it when snowboarding or x-country/snowshoeing and am able to also wear a small camel back (1ltr) with no trouble or discomfort....the thing I like best is the second strap that keeps it on your back when bent over...like when I need to get in or out of my bindings..... Just my $.02 |

One other thing...I do find the backpack a little short....i.e. it has a waist strap but it's up around my ribs....while making it secure it does not transfer any wieght to the hips for those extra long hikes and it can get noticeable...

I have a Lowepro MiniTrekker. Extremely well made and comfortable. Has a built in tripod carrier which I find very convenient. It holds a lot more than my ancient back will carry for any significant distance.

I have a Case Logic Backpack that I simply adore....cheap compared to everyone else, and large enough to hold my Dell Laptop as well. Check it out Case Logic SLR & Computer Backpack > Photo and Video > Case Logic
I can fit ALL my gear in it...it is really spacious...all for a $100-

Did you notice though when you looked at it that there are huge pockets on the side that are the length of the backpack that unzip to hold filters, cards, etc? |
