Monopod..

I just got my self a monopod to help with my hard to reach birding outings.. Gitzo series 2 Carbon fibre one.

Can anyone give me any hints as to how to best use it for support, I have a Canon 7d wiht sigma 150-500 on it.

Thanks Gryphon, I found the positioning the best.. exactly what I was looking for..now to try to see which one feels more comfortable.

Here is a link that shows how to use the monopod with a ball head. I find this to be a very stable way of using the monopod with large lens.

If you're going to be walking around alot, think about getting a holster for pliars etc. at a home improvement store, clip it to your belt, put the end of the monopod into it, very stable, and puts most of the camera/lens weight onto your belt for carrying.

Thanks Wallace, for posting this link. My monopod is the Manfrotto 680B (with Manfrotto 486RC2 ball head), and your provided link was very helpful to me, with my setup.
