I guess I must be a "belt and suspenders" man. I use both - a hand strap and a Black Rapid neck/shoulder strap. When I need to, I just unclip the Black Rapid (leaving in slung around my neck) and use the hand strap to shoot. Then again, I'm using perhaps bulkier SLR's. Also, I just realized that you've been using the term "wrist", not "hand", strap. So, I guess my comments may be irrelevant. :-(

I use a neck strap - always have. I'm using an OpTech neck strap that I've added the extended loops to so that it hangs at my right hip when I sling it across my body. That makes it long enough so that it's easy to to just swing up like a BR sling type, but without the hassle of having it attached at the tripod mount.

No way I could get by with a wrist strap/lanyard on anything but my P&S.

Hi, I use a neck strap for one reason: It seems so much more secure to me. I've tried hand-straps and they don't seem to give my camera/lens the protection I want. Have fun and keep shootin'. mike

Thanks Mike.

At the moment I'm just in the process of getting used to the handstrap. It's a bigger change than what I'd expected.

Neither. Neck strap gives you a sore neck over time. Wrist strap forces you to use stupid wrist angles in all portrait orientation shots.

I'm now looking at something like the BlackRapid RS-5, and currently use a Lowepro neoprene neck strap, but 90% of the time it is wrapped around my wrist.

My modus operandi exactly (with the same camera)

I usually use the neck strap as it can be utilized in several different ways. I did observe a beach wedding a couple weeks ago where the photographer was using some type of latching mechanism in a holstered manner and this seemed pretty nifty. I sent out on a search and this is what I found.

Those are the absolute worst things on the market. Most break within a year and there is also obviously no protection if the camera slips out of your hands.

With a neck strap, at least it is wrapped around your hands and with a good shoulder strap, well, at least it is around your shoulders. Also, ever try carrying a heavier camera around your belt? By the end of the day, your belt is distorted and damaged and it is uncomfortable as heck. For a P&S this setup may be acceptable, but for a multi-thousand dollar dSLR, look elsewhere.

We will see, I am primarily looking for a setup for carrying two cameras while shooting an on location session or wedding. I dont like carrying two cameras with straps, and I dont plan on setting my cameras down on the ground either. I'm not looking at carrying for an entire day, mostly for keeping hands free while posing, and a a place to keep the second body close.

As far as the no protection issue, I recently invested in 100% gear replacement insurance that covers everything except performing a John McEnroe scene with some of your equipment!
