Default Support for the 600: Will Gitzo 1325 work?

Anyone use this over the 15xx series with good results? Is it camera/system dependent?

That is, does IS/VR negate the possible extra shake in the 13xx series?

I use the gitzo 1548 for my 600mm f4 and love it. I think the 1325 will be a little under what you want. If you use extenders, flash with bracket, battery grip etc. you are getting up there in weight.

FWIW, I use the 1329 for the 500. I have no problems with that. I'm told Arthur Morris uses the same for the 600 with no issues.

Arthur Morris recommends the 1548 on non IS version lenses and the nikon 600mm, the ones with the IS versions says the 1329 is used by a lot of photographers without a problem. So I guess I gave some wrong info on the 1548, 1325 will work I do not know if it will be better but the 1548 is great.

Default My Rant On Tripods

From freshman physics we all know that motion is a function of force and mass. Since it is unlikely that we will press the shutter with more force when using different tripods that leaves mass as the variable. While there is not a massive difference in absolute terms my take a heavier tripod (like my 1410) is more stable than lighter tripods.

That being said I would add I use my CF Fiesol in the field with an Acratec head and a Wimberely Sidekick with a Sigma 120-300 2.8 and an Orion 600mm telescope.

Here is a good tripod link

http://www.bythom.com/support.htm

that is well worth reading. This is where I got the idea to use a gimbal type head with large heavy lens. There are other gimbal heads, but Wimberely was the king when I was buying.
