Default ID Card Printers

I shoot school photography. I just had a school ask me for a quote to shoot Fall 2010 school pictures. The only problem is they want to have instant ID cards printed onsite same day as photo shoot. We are talking less than 300 total students and staff. No one else has been able to deliver with the ID cards.

Anybody out there doing onsite photo ID cards? Anyone have recommendations for a good, reliable, but inexpensive ID card system (yeh, I know pick 2 out of three...).

Could you use a portable 4 X 6 photo printer and a laminate separately ?

This would be my suggestion as well.

The laminate versions won't work well. And many schools now require a magnetic strip.

A quick search on Google for "id card printer" shows quite a few possibilities. It looks like you could get set up for about $2,000 altogether, assuming you have a laptop and can set up a tethering system.

Given the way schools work on budgets, I'm not sure if you could get your money out of it on one job. Rentals are also available.

Pretty confused on what you are trying to ask on the laminate version, Anyways, I have compiled a useful article for ID Card printers on http://www.adapt-me.com/types-of-id-card-printers.html. May be this could help you in selecting the right type of printer and do have a look at it in your spare time for some information.

All the best!
