I can tell you when I did the church directory for my church, I did some photoshopping. Essentially, with large groups, there are time that saving a picture requires cutting out the eyes from one shot and bringing them into another shot. I have developed the RAW images with color, contrast, sharpening and even reducing noise if necessary. I have had to remove facial blemishes, out of sorts hair, pimples, etc. I have had to reduce a super shiny forehead and lighten really yellow teeth, so they do not become the center of an image. I have had specific requests to reduce a double chin, soft brush wrinkles to make older ladies look younger, etc. I have had to remove an unusual shadow or a shine on glasses. There are lots of things that I have done to make the image really work. Most of this is quick little stuff. I would definitely charge significant money for serious photoshop work like restoring an image, etc. or brinign an usuaul shot into the same exposure if the light was off (i.e. an outside shot). The goal is always to do custom White Balance, correct focus, and nice exposure, etc. in the camera, so none of this has to be done. Sometimes, you just have to do a few things to fix it.
Again, just my .00001279 cent (depreciated 2 cents). |

I do some restoration using photoshop, and seem to have had some success. Mostly real old photos, many with wrinkles, creases, old scotch tape, and even rips. Its time consuming but when you get good results it gives you the satisfaction that you gave new life to that old photo. This is someting that I would actually like to get into to make some extra cash, and I have in a small way. I have done about 20 or so and have gotten good response from the customers. Does anyone know of a place where I could post an ad to get business? Thanks

I have to agree that most people are happy with a minimal of touch ups. The goal should always be to capture the person is the right light first and then touch up when needed. Some of my not super young people who I photograph really enjoy having the soft brush mask some of the signs of aging that they do not care for. Also, I have had to cut eyes out from other shots and bring them into another shot to avoid closed eyes when I am shooting a big group and struggling with people always closing their eyes. I have also removed double chins from folks to thin them out. Finally, it pretty easy to remove the minor blemishes and shiny foreheads. This is usually more important to women than men.
