Default Just starting out...

..what should I do?

I have been serious about photography for a year now and many people have commented on my shots and asked whether I sell any. The answer is NO at the moment, probably because I don't market myself at all. My field of interest is nature and macro workand I am trying to get a handle on how I can start to push my work out to get more recognition. Any advice from pro's, semi-pro's or people already selling shots would be great.

How do I go about marketing myself? I am not sure I have enough quantity of great shots so maybe I should concentrate on building a portfolio? I started to set up a website but decided to use PBase instead, do I need my own site to be taken seriously?

Do you have a portfolio of images that you can take/show to prospective clients? How do you present them?

Any advice greatfully received.

Thanks

Alex

Alex, what are your photographic goals? Do want a hobby business or do you have a desire to go full time?
BTW: There is nothing wrong with a hobby business. I currently have a full-time career in a rewarding field,
and find a hobby photography business rewarding as well.

Kevin

Kevin,

I guess at the moment I would be looking for a hobby business rather than full time. I have too many commitments to consider jacking in my job right now. I think my goals are to be recognised as a quality photog in my field and then take it from there really. To get some work published would be good, for payment or not.

Alex
