Thought I'd revive this thread because I was searching around recently for really easy to use software for throwing up a photo web site. Anyone have any suggestions?

JAlbum is pretty good.
I've not made it do too much in terms of a full site, but for showing off the images its not bad, you can get something up and running pretty quick, its free and its good for Windoze, Linux and I believe Mac (its java based) JAlbum - the free web photo album software and photo gallery software |

I've been revamping mine in Flash but taking too long to get it finished. So I looked at Lightroom's Web module combined with free Flash and HTML templates. There are a dozens of them available from my limited searching. The variety and added controls is quite nice.
I'm going to reorganize mine quickly using SimpleViewer Flash galleries and a TTG XML Album Index generator for the categories. |

I just started looking at the open source Gallery. Looks like it may have what I need. Just have to figure out how to customize the colors.

I am a photographer, not a webmaster! I want it quick, easy, and cheap. I use iWeb (part of iLife on the Mac), and just add custom HTML or flash where I want to spruce it up. You can see what it is by clicking here: Black Eagle Studios. See? Quick, easy, and cheap; yet functional and informative. If you want to be a web designer, get Adobe CS3 Web edition. If you want to be a photographer, go easy. Either use a template design, or have someone else do your web. You have better uses for your time.

For what it's worth, I taught myself Flash enough to put together a site in about 3 hours. That having been said, I graduated with honors as a computer science major, so perhaps I have an advantage.
But seriously, don't underestimate your intelligence, or over-estimate how hard it is. If you are simply trying to show off some pictures and get some information... you should be able to learn enough via google to make something yourself without toooo much trouble. |

My background is computer science also. I've been building simple web pages since you had to do it in notepad. However, I will not be building my own website for displaying and selling my photographs.
Simple reason being, I work as a programmer/analyst, I want to become a part-time professional photographer. I want to use the internet to market and sell my photographs. You have to look at the time it would take me to build a website, vs what it would take to sign on with a service like smugmug. For me, my time is better spent getting out and photographing, not playing around with being a web developer. Can you provide the same level of features, and services as a professional website? Can you ensure that your website will work with all browsers? Can you guarantee the same level of uptime and security? Are you going to backup your own website on a frequent basis? But, the answer is always going to be based on what your individual needs, talents, and resources are. So there really isn't one RIGHT answer. |

ifp3 - Photography Web Sites - Home
I stubbled across this site and it seems pretty good. Easy to setup, there is a gallery, shopping cart and the design looks easy to navigate. I haven't used it though, so I don't know how it really is Chris __________________
