Default Single Print Price?

Got some an exciting email from someone who wants to buy a print of one of my shots. However, I have no idea what to charge.

It will be used by a framer in the Fine Art Trade Guild's framing competition and she wants to use it to show off her fancy framing techniques etc. What should I charge for a single print in say 12x10 or 20x16?

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks

Alex

In that case you gotta charge as high as you can get away with .
If you are paying a lab for these to be printed then you have to charge with that in mind.
Hard to say an exact price but if you had an idea I would add on a bit.
A 20x16 gotta be £50 at least

Based on absolutely no experience, however I'd go with £50+ for a large signed print.

This is always a tough question. There are so many things to consider. My normal price for a single 11x14 print double matted in a 16x20 frame is $95 US. While not a huge amount I do make some money from these sales by careful purchasing of materials. I will be going to San Francisco this weekend and will carry several of these prints to sell. The price there will be a slightly higher $125. The reason for this is the market in SF deems higher prices.

Someone new to selling will not command the price of someone well known. Friends may be willing to pay more than someone who has not heard of you.

After the competition what will happen to the print? Will it hang in this persons framing shop? If so, will you be able to make any sales from your print being displayed in this location? Will the shop owner be willing to let you hang other images for sale? If the answer is yes to these questions I would give a slight discount to this person. Make sure they know about the discount you are extending and the reason for the discount.

What is your cost on this print? I have heard several pricing strategies about multiplying the cost times 3 or 4 and sometimes more. Don’t forget to factor in all of your costs. Mailing/shipping/insurance costs, packaging material, even consider the gas for the auto if you will be delivering the product very far away.

And maybe the last thing is how important is it to you to have your image used for this? I am thrilled when one of my images is displayed in a public place.

Whatever the price make sure you are given credit for this image. If hanging in the shop after the competition is over maybe a sign hanging with you name and email/web site next to the image could be arraigned.

Good luck
john

Thanks.

She ordered a 12" x 8" and I charged £25 + £1.50 postage and packing. I't gonna cost me £3.50 to get printed. It will be a one off I am guessing as she is using it for a specific reason. I will ask her to include a credit for me though.

Cheers

Alex
