Any software recommendations for designing a logo? Or even a company that's reasonably priced?

Thanks.

Hi Richard,

for designing a good logo you would need Adobe Illustrator, 4 years graphic design college, experience, talent, and time.
That doesn't come cheap, of course.

Most print shops can hook you up with someone who does graphic design. Check out any local colleges, too.

I'm gonna totally disagree here.

I used PS to design our logo in 30 minutes with no graphic design experience.
I wanted something simple, but yet have some type of graphic "old style" camera graphic included in the logo.

Richard,
If your fluent with PS, look around at different company logos to get an idea of what you like, as well as what will help you "brand" your business.

So a graphic design education is waste of time, money and effort?

I would never have guessed.

You can also use an 18-wheeler to get the kids to school. And, guess what? It'll get the job done too.
But you can hardly call it the appropriate tool for the job, can you?

I wonder if you see the dissimilarity between these two statements? On the one hand, you're saying someone who has a decent idea of the desired design MUST have an expensive degree while on the other, you're saying Photoshop is overkill for logo design? Using your same analogy, I can use my pilot's license to get the kids to school, too...but it's hardly appropriate.

A graphic design degree is great for those who NEED it. Mark decided he didn't. The OP may decide the same. He may has MS Paint to make his logo (which is capable of producing a logo). He may hire an expensive ad agency, pay tens of thousands of dollars, and end up with full blown marketing campaign across the US. Whatever.

He's looking for options, not a diatribe that he's unqualified to even consider it.

Didn't say that.
I dissagreed that a college degree and Illustrator are needed to create professional logo.

Yes, I can.
I publish a wedding biannual magazine using only CS3 for layout. Works beautifully.

Unless you really have a flair for design, I would say avoid the expense of wasting your own time and buying software. Instead, enlist the help of a proven logo designer.

We don't agree too often, but we do now.
(As underscored by many a 'logo' we see around here).
