It would probably be a better value with better quality images. I wasn't impressed with the lighting or photography, especially for a product shoot.

I can hire a few local college girls for 1/3 the price they're asking. I suppose it's neat for someone who doesn't know any better.

The neat part is that it's a money maker for the site owner, Brian, not that it's a good value for the customer.

I clicked on the link before I read Brian's post, and I was thinking the same thing....poor lighting.
Cool idea, but it needs tweaking.

I could see this working for other types of businesses.

LOL...that's only "neat" for a while until someone comes along and offers a better value. Sounds like a recipe for a short business life to me.

I'd rather make less money and provide better value for a longer period of time.

I think you're still missing the point. You're confusing business model and execution. Two seperate issues. For example, wedding packages that include photographic coverage of the events of the day, prints, and albums are neat business models, but if the photographer can't take good pics, he's not offering value.

From a pure business model perspective, I don't' see it anymore innovative than the ads in the back of some photo magazines for product photography. And there have been a number of Model Mayhem "photographers" (I think they're technically agents but agents aren't allowed on MM so...whatever) offering similar services. This isn't really unique. It's just a different medium.

It is interesting, but a bit crude to me...Kind of reminds me of an escort service website I help create when I was in college. I agree about the pics, you would think for what they asking to rent these folks, they would at least have hired a decent photog rather than shooting it with P&S and a desk lamp!
