Default Website or MySpace page ?

I would just like to know others opinions & comments on using a MySpace page or an actual website for advertising, networking, etc. I am not currently shooting professionally (for profit that is) but I plan on going part-time soon and hopefully full time within the next few years. Any comments and advice are appreciated.

Depends on what demographic you are targeting. The under-25 crowd would love a MySpace page. In my opinion, a traditional website would look more professional. But using MySpace for networking is a great idea.

I think I'm just too old for MySpace!

MySpace should not be your primary presence on the web. It can be a tool for targeting the demographic mentioned by Bob, but if you want to cater to a wider audience you'll also need a traditional website.

The short answer - both

The long answer, marketing should cast a wide net. You need a web page, you need online social networking, you need real life social networking (chamber of commerce, etc) you need postcards, mailers, print ads, speaking engagements, I could go on and on but you get it. Determine where your target market gets there messages and start there, but don't neglect the downstream items. We all know the Coke colors and the Nike swoosh because we see it everywhere. Your brand should be no different in your market.

I use both then some more. The more places you network the better. That reminds me... I was going to look into FaceBook.com

Facebook is another good one for anyone considering it, so is orkut, and many of the other social networking sites. Its all about getting your name out there.

Both - Design a nice web page then link into the eliments on your myspace.

On my site, I have a link called LATEST SHOTS that takes my users to a photoblog located on my myspace.

Myspace allows you to search for friends within 10 or 20 miles of you. There is your customer base!
