Default Photographing Tourists Freelance?

Hi Everybody

When I was in New York I noticed several photographers, in Time Square in paticular, that would take a picture of you with Times Square in the background, print it out there and then and sell it to you.

Its not only New York that I have seen this, also many countries in Europe do the same.

I just wondered if this is perfectly legal, and is there any law that would prohibit you from doing this in the UK??

Many Thanks Numptette

I think its been going on in the UK since cameras were invented. I remember as a child before digital there were plenty of those photographers would take a picture then remove the plate from the camera dip it in some chemicals and you could walk away with it.

I remember as a kid walking with my mother down adderly street Cape Town a guy would stand on the pavement and take pictures of you walking past. He gives you a card and if you were interested you could phone him to get your pic. Thats going into the 60's wow now i am giving my age away.

It's not illegal in a public place but you may be required to get a business license, it just depends on the locale.

And we were talking about the same thing last night. My dad has got one like that which was taken of his mom and now I am going to do it on canvas for them.
