I wrote my own cart. It's not nearly as extensive as photocart, but since I'm the only one that uses it, it works my my needs. I could work on database connections to store orders and such. I could also track orders that return successfully from PayPal, meaning payment was received, to ensure I know which orders stored in the database where actually completed.

The above would just take time on my part, but again, unless someone wants to pay me to do it, it's just for my use.

Mind you, I'm a web developer, not a web designer, so my site leaves a little bit to be desired in the "look," but it's functional.

Do you folks who fulfill your own orders find that it's really a profitable use of your time? I did it for a short while and couldn’t seem to justify it. It may simply be that I’m too slow, but I just kept feeling that my time is just too valuable.

Keep in mind that I’m not selling multi-thousand dollar fine art prints – that would provide the justification!

With Zenfolio, how are you paid? I didn't see that information anywhere... Thanks!

Ref. Photocart, check out what Rich Favinger has done using Photocart. I'm in the process of designing a web site and will be using Photocart. The expense of the program is one-time only with upgrades given for free. No maintenance or other type of fees. Favinger Photography : Photography by Richard Favinger, Jr.

We use Photoreflect and fulfill the orders ourselves. They offer print and drop-ship service but it comes at an additional cost. When we print the order we know what it looks like when it hits the mail. We can't bark at $22,000+ in internet sales annually either.
