My daughter used my log in to make this post. What she is really wondering is where she should go to school. I don't know if I still have your number. I had it in an IM once.
Thanks, Kelly |

If she wants to be one of the best - fast, I highly recommend
PortraNET Portal There's no other place or school of such magnitude as Ron Kramer"s PortraNet.com. In one year Ron - who is recognized word's best HS senior portrait photographer - will polish her skills to be one of the best in the country. And you Kelly will benefit from it as much as your daughter. It can be like 2 for price of 1 since two of you are in photography. Check Ron's web site to see what I'm talking about and in one year -possibly much earlier- You will be thanking me for directing you there. PS. Just do not tell Ron that it was my idea about that 2 for 1. Sincerely - Waldemar |

Kelly not sure what kind of school she is looking for. If she is looking for a college to go to, Southern Illinois University has from what I hear a great photography program, have her check it out if it sounds interesting to her.

Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in Rochester, New York is the best, fully accredited, Commercial Photography School in the country. A distant second would be Brooks Institute (no relation), in California.
What type of commercial photography career does your daughter want to pursue? RIT has great programs in commercial and industrial photography. Having a degree from RIT will help in obtaining an asssistant's position in a successful commercial studio in NYC, Chicago or L.A. For a masters degree in Photography, useful for teaching, the Rhode Island School of Design would be a good choice. |

I would think Illiniois has some fine schools of photography (Google search?) - the question becomes what venue to follow.
Style of photography to pursue: Editorial, Portraiture, News, Glamour, Commercial, Wedding, etc. Next, and Most Important, a business school (or at least courses like accounting/marketing) to be included in her program. The world greatest photographer can starve to death waiting for the phone to ring, but with friends/contacts in the right places you can nearly always be working. |

Hi. I'm trying to decide what University to choose from, York, Ryerson, or OCAD (all Ontario schools). Each of them have a different teaching method, with different views on photography. I have taken art since I could remember so painting and sculpture are right up there with photography. But I also enjoy working with Digital in a studio. And black and white film is a real passion for me. Sadly each school that I have chosen specifies only in one (maybe two) of these wonderful aspects of photography. Another thing I wish to throw in there is that I would really like to turn this hobby into a life long job. Does anyone know how I can do this, or maybe suggestions on what would be the best rout to getting a job in the filed. Anything would really be appreciated.

Kelly, what kind of photography business is your daughter interested in pursuing?

A bunch of higher-ups got sacked in a recent shake-up regarding graduating unqualified students, but that was fairly recent and I don't know how much has changed. At the very least, Brooks should be approached with caution. |

Undergraduates must take all forms of art in the lower division: Drawing Sculpture (usually non-clay) Painting Ceramics (clay work, wheel and otherwise) Photography New Genres (digital audio, digital video, performance, installation, etc.) Afterwards, one chooses a medium to focus on (i.e. photography). For upper division, undergrads must take four different classes from the list above (Printmaking is also offered at upper division), but are then free to focus on whatever they choose. The photography program emphasizes color, but black-and-white is an option, though no academic class actually teaches it. The lab does workshops on black-and-white, and students may independently study and work in black-and-white. |
