Just started using a new service at www.photoshelter.com that is great! $5/month and you can set up pricing and purchasing options on the site. It was started by people from www.sportsshooter.com. Might be better than trying to develop and host your own backend.

I'm sorry, I don't quite understand. Do you mean you essentially want a template that uses paypal? You can just set it up yourself through paypal, you shouldn't need any software. You have to pay a bit for transactions of course, but paypal supposedly makes it pretty easy.
I'm looking into a couple things right now because I'm trying to set up an online gallery through my site. I will eventually hopefully have lots and lots of artists with all sorts of mediums. I'm hoping to get a shopping car set up and be able to accept credit cards without paypal and use the bank instead. Don't know yet if the fees would be less or more but I know some people no longer trust paypal so I would like to give them the option not to use it. The artists in the gallery would be charged a commission on each piece that sells which would go to fund my cancer project but I'll be the one hosting the images and updating and managing the site so they don't have to. Anyway, I don't know if it is what you mean, but you might look into CubeCart I think it is called for the shopping cart...I really don't know if that is what you are looking for or not. Sorry. yah..i think paypal is a good option as I am not based in US and paypal is one of the option that allows me to withdraw funds into my bank account cheaply and almost seamlessly.
I checked out Siteframe at http://siteframe.org/ which is good for photography galleries but its Paypal integration is not working at all. I am using Cubecart for another non-photography site and i think it works well but i would need to think how it would works as a photographry gallery. |

Get yourself a professional SmugMug ( www.smugmug.com ) account, and post your pics there. When people see them, they can buy them right there. Shopping cart and all. You set the prices for a bazillion different sizes of prints. Has Gifts too.
You want control? They allow a lot of "custom tagging", which can create a huge variety of different looking sites, and I believe it can point to a different site for the images. They have different upload options (PCs and MACs) and have batch uploading too. Certainly worth checking out. You can use the link below to save $5 off of your Professional account...unless you don't want to save $5 http://www.smugmug.com/?referrer=L5xvhn5DEtHqs |

If you have a paypal account you should be able to set up a shopping cart and just add a purchase and cart link to your pages. You can do your own web pages or you can use an existing host site that lets you edit your pages. I've done this over at pbase.com (http://www.pbase.com/jcornice/prints). You go to the Paypal site and they have a form for you to fill in your prices and options (delivery, sales tax, different print finishes, etc) and it generates the code for you to past into the web site.
I also use an onlin place called dotphoto.com (http://cornicello.dotphoto.com) but they offer too much (all print sizes, cards, t-shirts, etc.) where you don't have total control over things like cropping. If dotphoto would let me limit the print sizes and not offer other items I would like that more. With pbase and paypal the order comes to me, I order the print from mpix.com and then ship it off to the customer. John |

I use a freeware program called jalbum for paypal photo ordering. The software has a few different themes where you can enter your paypal info and setup the galleries, print prices and sizes. I think that is the type of software you are referring to. To see how it works visit my site http://www.whitetelferphotography.com/Weddings.html and view any of the galleries. You can select a photo to purchase to get an idea of how it works. Just don't complete order.
When someone places an order through your site you get the usual Paypal email that the funds are in your account, you can then fulfill the order from the print house of your choice. I hope this helps you. |

just a question, if a person orders pictures from pbase or smugmug, who does the printing? I would want my pics printed at mpix.

I think SmugMug uses EZPrints. Assume they still do. They do a really nice job. Don't know about PBase, but didn't know they printed anything anyway. If you want MPix, then I'd suggest you create your site, that allows others to send their requests to you, and you funnel them through MPix.

I highly recommend Photo Cart if you want to run a shopping cart/gallery on your own website.

Smugmug and all the other biggies (Pictage, Collages, and Eventpix) allow you to either have them print your orders or leave it up to you, meaning the order will come to you and then you order it from your lab. All these sites are a lot easier than having to come up with a site yourself.
Plus, most of these sites have partnered with a few chosen labs, I use Collages and they have partnered up with my lab. I can have someone order a print through Collages and with the ordering software from the lab, I can access the orders from Collages and have them sent right to the lab without having to use to different ordering systems. You have total control over your price lists also. SmugMug - The ultimate in photo sharing. Online photo albums, photo sharing, photo hosting and photo storage. go to imagequix.com.
I just signed up with them and love them. I have my own website and I just simply added a link for "client proofs" and it directs my clients to their website "that looks just like mine" (they even take your logo and background and use it). There they login in by email address and a password if you like and browse thru the images you upload. The software is free and easy to use. They can also change the pictures between color, bw and sepia. They then add the ones they like to the cart and check out. I use paypal only and I can accept credit cards thru it and the buyers don't even need a paypal account. So far its worked out great and my clients like it to. Isn't that the main thing! Oh yeah, pricing isn't bad. I loose 3% to paypal and it cost me up to $15 to upload 100+ pictures but only $5 for like 30 or so. And that's it. Hope this helps. Craig |
