I have been working on my MySpace page.
I feel so all alone. I don't have many friends. So far I have found a great local camera club and several of it's members. I'm getting lots of profile views - 51 in the two days I've had it up. I guess what I am wanting from this page is: Exhange with other photographers, ideas and contacts. High School Senior Market Connect with models ( I don't expect much in this small town area that I am in.) In conjuction with my regular website, get my name out in more places. I also need some ideas of what other photographers are placing on their MySpace pages. http://www.myspace.com/heartsfirephotography I'm working on getting some photos to put on there. Keep in mind I've only worked on this the past couple of days, so I'm just getting started with it. __________________

Great site Daniel. I don't like music on a site, but at least I can turn it off on yours.
I added you, BTW As someone pointed out, what's a photographers site without pictures. I guess I'll be working on that next. I love the calendar part. Of course mine right now wouldn't have any session on it. ![]() |

A suggestion on using Myspace to market yourself.
Make sure that you are wanting to market yourself to the people on Myspace before doing it. I dont think its a very professional way to market yourself, if you want to be a professional, you should have a real website that you can use to look professional. Now, if your target audience are the same people that think myspace is a cool thing and visit it regularly, then that is fine. But if your target audience is something more professional than that, you should reconsider before sending folks to your myspace page. I'm not saying its not good or wont work in specific situations, just make sure you think it out. If you want to be a PJ for instance, I would think LONG and HARD before referring a photo director at a magazine or newspaper to your myspace page. Unless its a mag that caters to that kind of stuff. Anyway, rambling, just a suggestion and something to think about. |

I agree with what Jim said whole heartedly. MySpace should not be your sole or even main website for your photo biz. That being said, I wrote this article for another photography site that I'm on and thought some of you might find it useful. For those that just want to checkout MySpace photographer pages with out reading any thing...
www.myspace.com/keithupton www.myspace.com/autophotographer www.myspace.com/wildlifephotographer Now the article... "For many years now I've avoided MySpace like the black plague. Not only did I not have the time to mess with it, I really did not want to bother with all the people just leaving junk and spam all over might page. Well, about a month or so ago I was talking with some friends about how to find some more local models/clients. Some how MySpace came up and I got to thinking about it as a purely marketing tool. While it is by no means the best or easiest way to market your self to the local populate, it is 100% FREE. It also operates off of the number one marketing system out there... word of mouth. Almost all of us know at least a few friends that have a MySpace page. This is all you need to get started, but before you do there are a few things to keep in mind when building your page. First, build the page as a place to showcase work and build contacts. This means keep all things on your page directly related to your photography business. You are going to be adding your friends and buddies to your page and hopefully some of their friends will be adding you as well. It's slow at first, but the networking starts to build up and before to long you will have "friends" you've never met or even talked to. This is were the majority of the work is going to come from. All these people are going to want to leave you comments just saying hi or just commenting to comment. If these comments do not hurt your page in any way, leave them up for a few days or a week and then prune out all the ones not related to your photography work. You don't want them cluttering up your page, but you also want your friends to know you care and appreciate them stopping by your site. After a while you will have "trained" most of your regular visitors to just post about your photos. Secondly, build your page with ease of viewing in mind. Avoid busy backgrounds, flashing or blinking graphics, videos and music. You want your page to look clean and inviting. Use dark text on light colored backgrounds. This makes it much easier for people to read your text. If you are like me and do several types of photography, think about building separate pages for each type. Build these pages to look identical in colors and layout. This gives your views the impression that every thing is on the same site. So why not keep it all on the same site? Target Marketing. Not everyone will be interested in all the types of photography that you do. Having different pages allows them to keep track of only what interests them. If it takes less time for them to check in on you, they will spend more time doing just that. Next, keep your page updated as often as possible. The key to getting MySpace to work for you is traffic. If your page never changes, people will stop coming to visit. An outdated page will also reflect that you don't care about your page, which implies you don't care about your business or photography. Finally, get out there and network. Once very two weeks or so dig through your list of friends and look at their friends. It will not be long before you find one on there that likes the same type of stuff you photograph. Leave them a comment and request to be friends. This then gives you access to their entire range of friends. This will build your network up in a hurry if you put a little effort into it from time to time. Also try and find other like photographs and add them as friends. Not only are they a good source for information shearing and photographic ideas, but their friends list is even more targeted. After all, most will be friends with that photographer because they like his/her type of photography. Just the kind of people you are looking for! If this kind of marketing and networking sounds like some thing you would like to give a try, sign up on MySpace and have a look at my Performance Imagery MySpace page. It'll give you some ideas as to how to layout your page and such. I've also found this site, MySpace-Help, well helpful!" |
