Default (Ab)using an assistant query.

I get to have my first assistant. Moving up in the world! HEY HEY! LOL

I already told him that I can't pay him (I really can't) and he's OK with that bit.

Shoot is going to last roughly 6-10 hours.

So, my question is, I already know what things I can have him do to help (organize memory cards, set up lights, organize "talent"...etc..) ... what sort of things can I abuse him for?

Love any good/wacky ideas

~Eric

Shoot, I don't know, try being a good guy to him.
Might surprise the heck out of him.

Where the hell is the fun in that?!

I was an intern for years at 4 different places, it comes with the territory!

Seems to me asking him to work for free is abuse enough.

It seems to me that if you want this person to assist in the future (particulary if you aren't paying him) that you would want to treat him decently rather than plan on being a poor boss.

Don't get me wrong, a good natured joke can help build some level of camaraderie but to "abuse" someone that is working for free seems wrong to me.

With all due respect; have to say that I am a little confused.

Your web page says that photography is just a hobby. Same with your JpgMag page. None the less you are going to ask someone to work for 6-10 hours for free? And then wonder how you can abuse him?

On one hand I understand that you are just trying to have fun on a photo forum. On the other hand I am like; really? I was an assistant for years. I was paid minimum wage, but I was paid. Long story short it is hard work.

Are you getting paid? The abuse lies in the fact that your helper does not get a cut. If you are not getting paid then hats off to ya. You both get extra credit for doing what you love without the burden of profit.

We used to send the new guys after:
Chain Stretchers
Sky hooks
left-handed wrenches

And in the auto parts business:
Blinker Fluid
radiator filters
Part number 111-111's (One-Eleven One-Eleven) its a sight-glass for your belly button so you can see where you're going when your head is anally implanted.

I don't know what to send newbie PA's out for except coffee.

Have fun, but don't be too abusive.

Steve

When I was a trainee engineer I was sent for a bucket of steam, its all part and parcel of the learning curve.
