Samsung does NOT make it easy to find out how to get an RMA for a defective hard drive. After a good bit of research, I finally found a method that works.

Compose an e-mail message to

hdd@totalts.com

In the subject line, write:

Service Policy/Warranty HDD/CD-ROM Drive Exchange

In the body, include this:

1. E-Mail :
2. Name :
3. Company :
4. Address :
5. City :
6. State :
7. Zip :
8. Phone :
9. Fax :
10. Item To Be Returned : hard disk
11. Model# :
12. Serial# :
13. Defects : Can Not Format, Read Errors, Write Errors
14. Purchase Date :
15. Other Comments :

Supply information for the relevant fields.

You should hear back within a few days, with an RMA number.

Maybe I'm missing something but I ran a computer store for 5 years and sold hundreds of HD's of many brands but I had to warraty the HD's myself and return to the factory for credit. Did you buy from a dealer or are you a dealer? If not just return it where you bought it for warranty.

Most stores will only accept returns for 15 to 30 days and beyond that you have to deal with the manufacturer for warranty repair. Maybe it depends on who you buy from.

    Thanks for the info, JD.

Swampler is correct. Newegg, for example, wants nothing to do with administering warranty service. Many of these drives have mutli-year warranties. Imagine if a retail store had to deal with all of the returns itself.
