Fans don't majically appear and they dissappear as fast as you get them to if they read personal issues on your Fan page. Did you know a Facebook user can only LIKE 500 pages, so you might want to be selective in your LIKES. Thou I have seen it go over the limit. It can also be frustrating to be asked again and again to like a Friends Fan page request. So you might want to rethink your options. There are many other ways to prmote your fan page and increase your fans withoug bugging all your current Facebook friends and think wider than just Facebook.
* One way is to embed widgets in your own website. Find a Facebook Social Plugin in your site, blog to have a click the "LIKE" button; which will make them a Facebook fan. *by the way, with the new Facebook changes, if you custom welcome tab and video talk about clicking the "Become a Fan" button, you may want to change the wording to "Click the Like Button" now.
*use Facebook Apps like Vpype, Target's Bullseye Gives, Buddy Media, FanAppz, Wildfire Apps, Involver Virtue, context Optional.
*Integrate the Facebook Comment Feature; this lets fans comments and buy things without having to like the page.
*Get fans to Tag Photos; if you live host line events, be sure to take plenty of photos and encourge fans to tag themselves. If you have setting set to no one begin able to tag you in a photo, then you just cut your arm off because you just lost the popularity contest by doing this. I know many worry about what they look like; but you goal here is to get your name out and getting exposure. And a picture says a thousand words.
*Load Videos and Embed on yoru site. Videos are extremely powerful. There's a video out there on How to get a 1,000 Facebook Fansn with a Single Video.
*Place Facebook Ads, set your prices and Market an Hour a Day. Not nessaraily on Facebook.

Do you use your real name... How did you get your Photography Name and How did you find your niche? Do you use your real name or use a Coorporate name or both? Where do you get information about stating a Small Photography Busniess and How do you know when to shoot full time or keep a second job? These are questions that we can answer with only our experience, but others might have their own take on this.

We can't tell you how many DBAs We've gotten and not used, but it's under 20. (I know) We've used our initials, our real name, our name professionally and other niche names. Our advice to a person starting a small business is just start off using your name. Keep it Simple. If your name is Tom Thumb, then call yourself Tom Thumb Photography. It really says it all. If you use Imagary by TT or Fotos by TThumb, it just leaves that question of what kind of business you really are. Please know that we have started with "initials" Studios and changed it after 6 months. Your name has to grow from your niche and your experience, so changing your name in Photography is the same as a model/actor changing their real name to a Model / Actor name. You want to use Professional name to match how you want people to proceive you. Before jumping in with a DBA, my best advice is go take a night class at your local city's small business school on "How to get Started" or "How to do a Business Plan". These cources are under $50 and they will play devils advocate in your plan on if it will work or not. It's better than socking a lot of money in an idea and watching it not successed. Thou, we have to tell you the process might make you think outside the box and help you determine what you niche should be or really already is. Then go get your DBA (Doing Business As) for your name or names. Cost is $11. Many have names for Baby's, Animals, or Events. Do your homework and know your business before jumping in. My other advice in names is keep it real. Lolly Pop Photography is going to limit your marketing genre. Heck I'm not sure what genre you will attract. (giggle) Know that you should attract women from 8-80 - they are the ones that are going to pay for photography. That's my two cent advice on Names.

My other advice is don't quit your day time job. Photography is not what it was to our parents and it's a weekend job or night time job. We know a lot of photographers and we don't know a rich photographer. If you hear all those instructors on those webnairs talk about how much money they made last year, well then divid it by one fourth and it might really be; not that they mention the overhead expenses. Why aren't they still doing photography instead of teaching if that was the case. Huh? Thou we shouldn't really say that because we attract new photographers learning and giving them what it takes to be a Fashion Photographer or the skills to make it on their own with a client.

We resently purchased an APP called i-expense - it shows your income and expense and where it goes. It will enlighten you on how much overhead expense you really have. Try it out for two months and yes the cost was under $5. You can see charts on if you electric bill went up and if you made any money on an event or not. When you make budgets and don't inforce them, then this app will show you why you broke the budget. (insert sad face here) It's use to keep us in check.

Where did Texas Photo Shoot Workshop name come from? We didn't invite ourselves, it was a forced name that we came to accept. The story started when we did Free Group Shoots in 2004 with a few mentor photographers that guided us to where we are. They told us the rules and what to never do because so many were failing left and right. We have seen many workshop group come and go, just as we see talent people come in our lives. As we did our tour of Free Group Shoots to know the local talent and network, we knew that we had to step it up and bring something different and add new rules to what was an expensive hobby. What helped us was the purchase of the International Portfolio site OneTalentSource (OTS) and it's 15,000 members which doubled in numbers in two years. With our Marketing background, we knew that we had to pay more to market ads in photography magazines, photography forums and portfolio sites that had our geographic audience. We started with the name ThePhotoBinder Photography Events, thou we still use that name, but just to a different genre of Events. We found that the Photography forums only had workshop sections to advertise in, we started to call our photo shoots workshops. Thou we are not a true Instructional sit-down workshop we do have Instructors and Mentors well qualified help and answer questions as they arrise at these Photography Photo Shoot Workshops we started. Our first mentor was an Instructor on Ranger Magazine that taught us our foundation. We wanted two things; income to keep the high cost of OneTalentSource and help with the Studio Overhead. With too much overhead, we closed the Studio Doors but keep OneTalentSource. We later closed the site on OTS last April 2012 as we could not compete with FaceBook. The Photography Forums named us Workshops thou we just wanted to call them Paid Photo Shoots, we turned our Name a few years back to Texas Photo Shoot Workshops (with our growing talented Mentors). We used the name TEXAS thou we are based near Houston, we have traveled to some unique locations to do these workshops all over Texas. Thou we have come along way since thous Free Group Shoots, we still work with some of the same people from back then and I could say that we have the same prices. Our first workshop was $75 and we introduced makeup artists and wardrobe to those models that can't efford it. We found our niche in Event Photography and hosting Photo Shoot workshops for any ages.

Choosing a business name is an important step in the business planning. Not only should you pick a name that reflects your niche, but you also need to ensure it is properly registered and protected for the long term. You should also give thought to it's web-ready. Is the domain name even available? What Logo should you use?
