THE MOVING CAR......
Posted 02-11-2011 at 10:50 PM by Digital Latte
Hanging out in the back of a Ford Focus wagon with two Alien Bee 800s clamped to a wooden dowel, cruising at 40 to 50 mph, Digital Latte drags the shutter along one of Eugene’s long windy roads. The goal? The moving car shot.

Taking as much caution a possible, with a driver for the shooter, a second driver for the beautiful cool vanilla Chrysler 300 and of course the photographer, this three person job was knocked out in under 45 minutes!
Photographing a car or any moving object can be slightly tricky. In this case, you are in one moving object with the goal of capturing another moving object... and to have it in focus.
The gear we used: a hatch back car with the hatch up, shooting out the back; two AB800s rigged up with a Vagabond Mini Lithium battery pack; two remote receivers; and one trigger on the camera.
The camera for this job was a Canon 7D, with a 24-105 f/4 IS L lens. We shot in Tv mode, and had an EV of -1. The shutter was dialed in at 1/20 and 1/10. The auto focus mode was set on AI servo. We used the center 9 AF points. White balance in the camera was set to flash, but the light was all over the place so it was adjusted in post production (a great reason to shoot in RAW!)
The goal for the day was to capture at least one crisp shot with lots of motion blur. I think we nailed it !!
