What it is to be in the right place at the right time with the right eye and the right equipment.

A very nice composition.

Very nice capture. Were the rays of light like this or did you put them in afterwards?

It was just the case of being at the right place. Here is a wider shot, I do have a pano I post when I get home.

Nicely done. The crop you have certainly centers the viewers attn more than the panorama, but both are beautiful black and white images.

It is wonderful. Obviously the subject matter really lends itself to B&W. The composition was great with just the right horizon and subject placement.

Can I ask where it was taken?

Sure it was downtown Seattle looking west in to the Puget Sound. The section of land on the left is Alki Point. And the angle is from the 23rd floor of the condo we live in.

Yes the pano is not as good, but I included as a prospective view. Showing a wider view of the scene and what I zeroed in on.

I’ve been playing with landscapes, stitching and the 70-200mm lens. I like the capability of using a mid tele in landscape shots to focus in on a segment of a scene. Then back out some by using the pano stitching in PS. So I seldom use a wide angle lens with my landscapes anymore. I can get almost the same view with more detail if I’m careful and quick to compose the image. I will a wide angle lens when I want greater depth of field on objects that are close to the lens, or when the scene is changing too fast to get in pano correctly.

Mr P
Thanks Mr P but actually the larger image is a pano and slightly pulled back from the original shot posted. This is a crop from the pano version and the lack of detail may be the slight mist in the air. It was a little challenging to keep the smoke detail since the tonal range in the scene was fairly dramatic.
