Don't know Mr P ,
I thought I had made a fantastic nice artfull Black and white image, for which I needed to travel miles around the Netherlands, waiting for hours in busses and railway stations.

My idea was to present it here for a bit of delight and maybe some critique, but now it has turned into comics, is associated to aliens and even captioned with the mundane word 'ringflash' (which it is clearly not).

"Oh, what sad times are these when passing camelians can jest with a photo of old formum members at will. There is a pestilence upon this internet, nothing is sacred.

Well I thought 'ringflash' was a pretty good guess , two exposures and the slightly shaded areas in the circles were where the ring was attached to the holder . As for a serious critique then at first it appears quite boring , it is all there ,and it's all there straight away , there is nothing to explore apart from going side to side , two central white circles on a black background so then you have to try and make some kind of meaning of it , what does it mean , what does it represent, how does it affect me , is it one of those images that the artist will try and give a long drawn out spiel about how they came to the image through some inner struggle and conflict that somehow is overcome and resolved through the manifestation of the vision before you ?
So 'Rense the BW art photographer' please do enlighten the masses of what you are communicating with this image ?

@dakman: Look up the word mimesis. In the classical formalism the artwork is an end to bring you to a higher sphere. I'm more a fan of the theory of Lukács: the artwork is a symbol/reflection of the truth in society at large.

I'd guess it's part of a lighting system in a train or maybe a bus , Rense seems to unfortunately spend half his waking day in and on Dutch public transport and a lot of his images depict this part of his life . That's what happens when you live in an over populated , congested nation

On the bright side, the public transport system in the Netherlands is very good indeed. (commenting on the comments because I can't think of anything at all to say about the photo )

I think you are right, but at this time of the year when the leaves are falling there can be two major causes for delay:
suicide (happened twice this week on my travels)
square wheels, because the rails get slippery of the decaying leaves.

There comes another cause, later, when the overhead cables are thick with frost and the early-morning trains can't extract sufficient electricity from them. It happened to us on a train to Schiphol - marvellous blue (lightning) flashes though - but we almost missed our flight.
