Viewing all the images here so far has been like a stroll through a fine art museum. Very impressive images.....Here is my submission. A shot from the bottom of Chain of Craters Road in Volcano National Park, Big Island, Hawaii facing towards Kalapena where the current lava flow is meeting the ocean. You can see the steam rising in the distance.

This was taken in Pompeii with my Sony828 in color. I flipped it to B/W in CS3. I am pretty happy with the conversion with the texture and shadows. What really appealed to me as the photographer was the worn areas on the steps of all the feet passing it when Pompeii was a living and vibrant city.
