The color does indeed help separate the dancers, especially the headdresses, from the trees in the background. I can't honestly say that I like the red/cyan color scheme the show's wardrobe designer chose for the costumes, but you are not responsible for that and had to work with the colors as is. I can now see why you might want to try a monochrome version; but, despite the color scheme, I think the color version is better overall.

Thanks for comments, I thought a varied level of contrast would make up for the lack of colors.

"Lack of colors"? Some of the most effective color images I have seen have a limited color palette. Have a look at this thread for a recent example.

Perhaps I should have written "nonuse of colors", thanks for the link. I've been searching black and white fashion photography to see how it is traditionally presented; interesting finds so far.

I like the colour version of this - the bw version is not bad either, but the background is too busy.
If you darkened the background on the right hand-side in both versions maybe it would help isolate the main subject?
